How slow is to slow?

I have worked up a very accurate 7.62X39 load using 150gr Partitions. The velocities of this load average just over 2100fps. Is 2100fps to slow for Partitions? I have tried BT's and can't make them or any "Boat Tail" shoot in this rifle.
Thanks

Steve,

The PT's are designed to open up down to speeds of 1900 fps. With a 2100 fps mv, you will be 1900 fps @ 100 yds.

The BT's will expand as low as 1600 fps. This would give you a 300 yd range with the 150 gr BT bullet.

Great post JD338, I have one minor correction. Generally speaking Partitions are designed to open at 1800fps (what's 100 fps among buds). At the velocities you’re going to be shooting I'd probably go with the Ballistic Tip, depending on the game you’re going after.

.762x39 rifles are not really .308 caliber they are .310 to .311 if you are using .308 bullets they will wobble and not act right. You probabluy know this already but I ran into this when I first got my SKS and I appolagize if you knew.

Mine is an older Ruger Mini-30 and I am told it has a .308 barrel by some and a tapered barrel by others. Anyway, all of the .310 and .311 bullets I have tried don't shoot as well as the .308's. I appreciate the help just the same.

As for the Balistic Tips, they don't shoot well in this gun. It doesn't shoot any Boat Tails well. I have the Partitions shooting about 1 1/2 inch groups at 100 yards, that's pretty good for this or any Mini-30. If you don't think it's to slow, I think I will go with the Partitions.

Thanks
