Was just thinking back about my hunts over the past 10 years. Many times I didn't come home with a notched tag, but empty handed. Those also were good hunts.

Every hunt is a story, an adventure to be remembered, shared with good folks. Dad didn't do much "big game" hunting but he was serious about his bird hunting. One of my sons hunts and is my most frequent companion afield.

I am so grateful for having been able to do all this hunting, and so much more over the past decades!

I may be in a bit of a .30-06 rut too Guy. But I just love the danged cartridge and rifle so much, it makes no sense to not utilize it as much as possible. As you can see I’ve used other stuff too:

Everyday afield with friends and family is a success, regardless of the finn, fur or feather you bring home!
If you do, it just adds the benefit of sharing more time at the table with friends and family enjoying in the sharing of the fruits of your labour, and the contentment of full bellies, and fond memories

You're right Gerry - I want to get that easy kicking, flat shooting, lethal 25-06 back into the hunt! Easiest way I have of making a 400 yard shot... Just put the crosshairs on the back of the deer and drop the bullet right into the vitals.

The .25-06 is an easy one to love!!

Just get Gavin to hook you up with some of those new fancy bullets he likes to use. Or just keep on using those 115 gr blue cyclones that work so well!

I have a log of all the deer I have taken since 1967. I recorded the year, the location, the weapon (shotgun, pistol, bow, X-bow, rifle cartridge), and number of shots. I believe that, as I review the list, I can remember each one of them. It took me 7 shots to finish my first buck with a borrowed Win. M12 shotgun. All of the deer taken with pistols (around 18) were taken with one shot. All but one of the deer taken with a rifle were taken with one shot. I haven't used a muzzle loader yet. All-in-all, I like hunting with a rifle the best.
