Well I got my 30-06 back and it now has a 3.5lb trigger that is crisp. The gunsmith recommended that I clean the rifle with copper cleaner. The rifle is 18 years old and has never been cleaned with a copper cleaner. The local shop has Shooter Choice so I grabbed a bottle of it. Will this do the job or should I return it and look for something different in another store?

Thanks

JB Bore compound
Barnes CR-10
Sweets 7.62
Wipe-out.

These are my favorites.

If you can order it, get some BoreTech Eliminator. I've used almost every kind of solvent there is, and BTE is the clear winner. Get some nickel plated jags, too, or you'll get false Cooper readings and never know when your barrel is clean.

I use Sweets 7.62 for copper fouling and JB Bore Paste for the stubborn spots.

Almost any copper cleaner will work, if used as directed. Shooters Choice is good, but I agree that Sweets 7.62, or Barnes CR-10, or BoreTech Eliminator are more aggressive for stubborn copper deposits. I'd surely try the Shooter's Choice since you have it. It may be more than acceptable for you.

I like wipe out myself.... I imagine all will work. You may be surprised at the positive results. Most of us really dont shoot enough to "shoot out" a rifle. The just get fouled with copper and carbon. Ive "saved" a couple for friends with wipe out. Hope it goes well. CL

I have been told by those I trust that wipe out is the way to go, but couldn't ever find it. I ran shooter's choice copper remover for a long time, then got hooked on gunslick bore foam which works BEAUTIFULLY.

JB Bore compound is great and I use that occasionally, and shooter's choice'll work fine it just'll take a lot of time to get done what needs doin'.

That gunslick is great if you can't find wipe out, and on this first really tough job JB Bore Compound might come in handy as well.

Great to hear about the new trigger job. I'm excited to hear how that translates onto a paper target!

I would give the Shooters Choice a try as well. Just mop the stuff in the bore pretty heavy and let it sit for awhile. I used it for awhile till I went to Montana Xtreme Copper Killer. The Montana is a little faster, but SC did a good enough job. I would bet your rifle will really shoot well with the new trigger job and a really clean bore. Looking forward to the range report. Scotty

If you can't get BTE, one of the foaming cleaners is a good second choice. Break-Free and Birchwood-Casey have worked well for me. I tried Shooter's Choice and it's alright, but not great. If you use one of the heavy ammonia based solvents (CR-10, Montana Extreme, Sweets, etc.) be sure to mop out the bore and if you can, follow it with plenty of rubbing alcohol and then plenty of gun oil. If you use one of the foams, I'd follow it with some Hoppe's or other liquid carbon solvent and then oil the bore thoroughly.

Get it clean and post some range results! Hunting season is coming soon!
