I have a Ruger M77 Mark II chambered in 7-57 Mauser and have not attempted any reloads with Nosler bullets. What is your recommendation for an ideal whitetail bullet/powder combination? I hunt the mountainous regions of Virginia where shots in close cover all the way out to 250 yards can be expected. Thank you.

The load my mom used and I used when I was a kid borrowing her
rifle, was 140 grain partitions and IMR 4350. Worked good for deer, antelope on the plains of Montana and woods of Washington.

I used it to bag a lot of grouse while deer hunting. Carried a few rounds in my pocket with a cast bullet and SR 4759.

Any of the 7mm 140gr Nosler Bullets will work , I perfer the Partition as I haven't takeing the time to work with the AccuBond enough yet.
Powders that work well in my older model Ruger are IMR-4831,RL-19,H-414 & 4350,Win-760,decent with H-4831sc,RL-22 and IMR-4064.

Good Luck with it.

Thanks.

Is there much of a difference between the 140 and 150 grain Partitions? Besides 10 grains of bullet weight? Is one much tougher than the other? Is the 150 designed more for magnum velocities and the 140s for more sedate rounds, or vice versa?

According to Nosler's manual I should be able to push the 150 almost as fast as the 140, so I am looking for some definitive criteria to choose one over the other.

Dogger-

No real difference in construction. Both do the same thing. Whatever one shoots better in your rifle.

I do not think that God has created a whitetail that can tell the diff!
