If you could only own one rifle

Well I can only afford the one I have... so, my FN mauser comercial in 250-3000. Ever try shooting prairie dogs with a 35 Whelen or a 338? (kidding- actually, that wouldnt be shooting. You could just aim at the base of the mound and excavate them!) One rifle...? Sacrilige! CL

Well if I woke up in a position to where I could only own one rifle; I would want that rifle to be a set of brass knuckles...

So I could slip them on and wear MYSELF out for being so poor at planning.

One rifle! Now I'll have nightmares all evening. What a terrible predicament that would be!

My Post 64 Win M-70, 300 Win Mag., with my Leupold 2.5 X 8 X 40 adequate for most everything in north america.

Next would be my Rem 721, Whelen, with my Leupold 1 X 5.

Speaking of which, have you gotten back out to shoot it yet?

Well now that I pretty much have the STW ironed out I have an opportunity to play with somethin else. That one has crossed my mind but I picked up the Marlin .308 first. I have a great load worked up using LC -72 cases which I only have about 50 of, so I have to find a newer case to work with.

Whelen or .223 next. Want to shoot a coyote or two next month.

Can't wait to see what you get out of your Whelen Bill. It'll be good to see you packing it around a little next Fall. Now, we just need Nosler to put some 225's or 250's on the Shooters Pro Shop so we can stock up. Scotty

Remington Model 700 in 280 Rem of course!!! Either a 3-9 or 4-12 scope and You could use different loads for different situations. Long live the 280!!!!

I was tempted to go with my .280 K98 as is, it's built on an occupied CZ action with a Burris 3X9 but had to go with the venerable 30-06 if moose are in the mix. Good thing I can own more than one. Got the 30-06 last winter in case I draw a moose tag. I use the .280 for everything else. Only problem with it is the K98 action box is slightly shorter than the M98 action giving me some issues with long bullets in the .280. The savage '06 makes a good loaner rifle for my friends who always seem to have gun issues right before hunting season.

Does one action and 3 barrels count?

There's always one who has to test the limits. Okay, Dave, you can have three barrels. No more, though!

What about a Pre-64 in .280AI Pac-Nor 24" #1 with a Bell and Carlson stock and a Fixed 6 Leuppy to top her off? Not much you couldn't do with that.

Thats another rifle you wouldn't have too many excuses to own another with.... Those rifles are dangerous to me... I don't wanna fall in love with any one rifle too much.. The Whelen and 270WSM really had me tricked for a few years till I realized there were others, I just had to try..

Sign me up for a 7mm something (RM or WSM) in a M70 EW. Topped with a VX-3 3.5x10x40 with CDS dials. Push a 160 AB around 3000 fps, and put stuff on the wall (mostly in the freezer) all day long. Nothing to fancy, but has some good range, light weight, very managable recoil, and plenty of snort for all the critters I hunt in Oregon.

If we are talking NA, I would have to go with a 338 WM, same rifle and scope.

If we are talking world, I'm going Ruger African in a 375R. Iron sights for things that charge when pissed in close quarters, and a 2.5-8x36 VX-3 for everything else.

Hey, whats the sell out to the 7mm's for Jake! You just built the ultimate 270 and now your selling out to a 7mm! Sheesh------

Aaah, someone with the Christmas spirit.
Ok, the Encore with a .45-410, .223, and .30-06 barrels.
I would have the bases covered for my hunting needs. Although depending on some factors, I would might switch the 06 for something of larger caliber. But not out of necessity.

You might just dig some trenches for them little fellers to hide in. Didn't they stop trench warfare after WWI?
