Im new, and interested in a TGR

Email sent, and being able to fire factory 280 ammo in the 280AI and having brass fireformed in the same process sounds like a win to me.

Yeah, you've got the disease now. It is likely too late, as you've already drunk the Kool-Aid. The 280AI is a great cartridge; and the Nosler TGR appears to be a rifle built as it should be built. I can't imagine that anyone would be terribly disappointed in that combination.

It's like an itch I can't scratch lol. Every dollar I can scrap up now is being saved up for the TGR and scope, as well as some reloading equipment. And the blessing was given by the sig. other to buy it once the funds are up as long as I teach her to shoot it so all is good. Thanks all!

Its a great itch buddy! When your ready, we are all here to help you out with reloading for your rifle.

The guys nailed it though, a 280 or 280AI is one awesome performer. You'll likely not want to carry anything else.

Since you'll be teaching your significant other to shoot, do give consideration to a cartridge that doesn't batter a person. Few of us truly benefit when we are initiated with a magnum. We will do better to work with a cartridge that doesn't kick us out from under our hat. The .280 can fill that bill quite nicely.

Once again stellar answers and support for all my questions, which I know have been a lot. It is much appreciated.

Oh and on the sig. other, I had her shoot one of my 22's when I was home on leave, and it didnt take her long to be in the X ring...I think I may be in trouble there

You may want to save up a little extra and take her shopping to pick out a rifle of her own. Maybe one with a purple McSwirley stock, or hot pink urban camo. Pick a rifle that fits her chambered in a cartridge that will serve her well when she hunts with you and that doesn't kick her out from under her hat. A good rifle for her need not put you in the poor house.

Dr. Mike,
I had an idea of using an old Savage 30-06 I have up north and rebarreling it into .25-06 with a McMillan stock, or getting a Howa/Weatherby for her in 7mm/08 with a McMillan once I get my TGR. Of course the stock will be all "pretty"; she has already looked at the McMillans and loves the swirl patterns

Either would be an excellent cartridge for someone who is not used to shooting all that much. Also, for someone with a smaller length of pull (admittedly, an assumption on my part), fitting the action in a stock that fits will go a long way toward making the shooting pleasant.

I see the 280AI is offered in both a Sporter barrel or with a Magnum barrel. Pros/Cons of either?

The magnum barrel will be a little stiffer, potentially allowing for a higher degree of accuracy. The sporter barrel is lighter, and allows for a more comfortable carry. I have not had a problem with any of my rifles wearing a sporter barrel. Then, I don't do a lot of shooting at one time and I do carry my rifles for long periods.

Finally put my hands on a TGR this morning. Local gunshop had one in .270 WSM.

Nice hunting rifle! Light. Good handling. Fit and finish is good. The metal coating is very uniform and has an attractive, utilitarian appearance. The stock was very comfortable too. Nice rifles!

I am going to opt for the TGR in 35 Whelel...once I have the money saved :). It will do on just about everything.

Man, you are right on point today. Two great rifles... Man, don't tell your significant other, but you are well covered for everything!

Lol...the other rifle is a gift from the girl and parents...I am a lucky guy. Now I have to find her a rifle

I have owned a LOT of nice hunting rifles.
The TGR in 280AI is my favorite.

I had a very nice Cooper custom shop made in 25-06 and received it after I got the Nosler.
It is a work of art in a great caliber but the Nosler gets the nod because it is such a great shooter and very versatile.

I have the light barrel and am getting 2" 500 yard 5 shot groups with the 140 AccuBond.

What more could you ask for?
