Are they very similliar powders? My rifle likes IMR 4350 but I would like to not have to worry about the tempurature outside and what it is going to do.

They have a "similar" burning rate but they are not the same. IMR is quicker burning than H! H is an extreme powder for temp fluxuations.

Cool thanks. So there is a chance I could see a little velocity increase with the Hodgdons?

Corey

C.Smith, You may see a velocity increase but not necessarily. What bullet and caliber are you loading for? H is just a hair slower burning than IMR. (max charges is usually within a grain or so). Highest velocity will be determined by which load groups the best in your gun and how close that load comes to max. Remember, the heavier the bullet the slower the powder should give you optimum burn rate and also the barrel length plays a part in how efficient the powder burns.

Probably the opposite.

If you load 2 shells with 60 gr (just an example) of each the IMR load will be faster and pressures will be higher.

It's for my 30-06 using 165 grain bullets. I have found so far that I have gotten better than book velocities with the 21 inch barrel. Very strange I know.
