I have a Weatherby 7mm 08 S2 24" barrel
I am using IMR 4350
I have QL but a lil confused on the powder charge options
Even at 48 grains the Pressure is listed at only 52269 but the Filling/L.R. is at 106.3

Can a Filling/L.R. over 100% be safe?

Honestly just looking for target shooting loads with this 120 BT
Any ballpark test loads for target shooting is welcome!

Thanks
Steve

yes that case fill % is safe . I like to work in the 95% - 105% case fill range , at max load .

what you are seeing is , this powder is a little slow for this combo . you are going to see a higher case fill , and a lower velocity . this powder maxes out at 50.1 grain 110.7% case fill , 60075 PSI , 3086 FPS . this shows that max pressure can be reached , but at a borderline high case fill . if I have a choice I'd rather not work with this high of a case fill . so when the case fill is lowered to a mid range load , the PSI goes down . the problem I see with low pressure loads , usually they burn dirty .

you can get quickload to give a list of powders that is made to your specs . I set up the chart for max PSI , and I'll set the case fill at 110% , just to see if something just over 105% shows up . I'd rather work at 95% - 105 %

looking at the powder chart RL17 would be a great choice . it has a max PSI load, case fill of 106.7% , and gives 3232 FPS . I know RL17 works well in the 7mm-08 , I use it . this is how I pick my powder choice .

Code:
Cartridge : 7 mm-08 Rem.
Bullet : .284, 120, Nosler BalTip 28120
Useable Case Capaci: 49.378 grain H2O = 3.206 cm³
Cartridge O.A.L. L6: 2.800 inch = 71.12 mm
Barrel Length : 24.0 inch = 609.6 mm

Predicted Data for Indicated Charges of the Following Powders.
Matching Maximum Pressure: 60191 psi, or 415 MPa
or a maximum loading ratio or filling of 110 %
These calculations refer to your specified settings in QuickLOAD 'Cartridge Dimensions' window.
C A U T I O N : any load listed can result in a powder charge that falls below minimum suggested
loads or exceeds maximum suggested loads as presented in current handloading manuals. Understand
that all of the listed powders can be unsuitable for the given combination of cartridge, bullet
and gun. Actual load order can vary, depending upon lot-to-lot powder and component variations.

Super nice and very informative reply JimBire
I have had QL for over 9 years and did not now how you and Dr MIke and others used it other than populate just the default Screen!

This helped me a lot for future riel loads as well

Thank you!!

I did goof in my previous reply . I'll edit it now . yesterday I wrote I like to work in the 100 - 105% case fill , that is wrong . I like to be in the 95% - 105% .

I like to work in the 95% - 105% case fill . I'll work a little over 105% , and I'll work a little under 95% , but I try to work between 95% - 105% . I like a full case . I ALWAYS use a drop tube funnel trying to avoid powder crunch . when working with a high case fill the powder can push the bullet back out . the cure I found for this , is to run the ammo through the seating die again the next day . after the second seating the COAL stayed at spec . I ran into this using IMR7828 in a 243 . this was before IMR7828sc was available .
