Imr 7828

When is the last time anyone has seen 7828?
Looks like I bought some in November 2020. I have seen every powder in existence except for Reloder 26 and 7828 since Braindead became president.
Notice the prices, this was only 3 years and 9 months ago!!!

7828 used to be a pretty inexpensive powder for magnum cartridges, and a good one.

I have had a couple of pounds of imr 7828 forever. Never tried it until this past weekend (bought it for 300 wby I sold before loading) with 150 gr ablr in old 270 win. 3 shots well under moa at 2900 fps out of 22” barrel (using Nosler load data). .591 BC with this bullet. Who needs a PRC. Should have bought more before it got too expensive

i bought some for 264wm, 243win and now will use some for 7saum and 6.5prc. yes, i do have some left in the ssc. i did see some either earlier this year or late last year, but don't recall where online it was.

When I started loading for my custom .280 Rem. I looked for RL22 as that was supposed to give good speed and accuracy in the .280. No such luck so when I checked my load manuals I saw that IMR7828 would come at 24 FPS slower that RL22 I decided to give it a try. I got the speed but not the accuracy. In fact it was a bit erratic in accuracy while velocity showed no ill effects. Never figured that one out. I knew the long discontinued WMR powder worked great in the .270 so I tried it running the Speer 160 gr. Grand Slams with good speed and excellent accuracy. I don't argue with success.

I've used it in the past with good results in my 25.06 with 115 - 120gr bullets. The local gun shop here has several 1lb cans on the shelf but at $75 a can that's probably why it's still there. I have just over a pound in my cabinet that's been in there for a while and i know this because it has a price of $29.99 on it. Still appears to be good though and this thread makes me want to get it out and play around with it. Mike

Hodgdon simply needs to manufacture it again to placate its lifelong customers.

Good thing I got an 8# of h1000 as a replacement. Plus I have zero cases that need to be filled with 7828.
