When I first ventured into reloading, I asked an older gentleman who was tending the counter at a local gunshop at that time "what would be the powder of choice for the 30-30 Winchester ?". Without much thinking and hesitation, He grabbed a can of IMR 4895 and handed it over to me. Many more cans of IMR had proceeded that first pound that I bought 22 years ago, and since then it is always my powder of choice when developing loads for a new rifle. It is no accident then that, when time came to developed a load for rifles that we're taking to Africa, IMR powder got the nod. I had burn more IMR powder than any other brands of powder combined, with 4350 on top of the list. It is the powder of choice for my 243 Winchester, 6MM Remington, 338 Win Mag and my friends 375 Weatherby. My 280 get a steady diet of 4831. I have a hunting load using IMR 4831 and Hornady 250 grain BTSP, that I developed for my 338 Lapua Improved that was so accurate that it's scary. For the 300's what better powder there is but the 7828. I know there are more modern propelant in the market these days but, they are non better than the old favorite in my opinion.

Desert Fox.

I agree fully with you, I have burnt a tremendous amount of IMR4831 powder over the past 35 or so years. I am also fond of Alliant powder in recent years.

IMR 4350 is probably the most universal IMR powder I've used for 243 win on up to much larger cases and medium weight bullets, of all the IMR powder I've worked with. I suppose in a pinch, you could load pretty near everything under the sun with 4895, 4350, and 4831. I have gone to mainly using Hodgdon extruded extreme temp powder, but the 243 and 30-06 still get fed IMR4350 cuz it just works!

I like IMR-4350 too, but I shoot more IMR-4064 than any other powder.
Great in the .308, and similers rounds, very good in the 30,06 35 whelen and .375 H&H.
I recently tried som V-N160 in my .338 and I only hope I can find some more of it.
Lots of good powders these days, but i too like the IMR powders...tj3006

Good ole IMR-4350.... I've been through numerous 1lb cans and an 8lb-er. Same for IMR-3031.

I have switched on several round however and I to have turned into a Viht fan.
N-165 for my .280 & 7-Mag. Actually didn't do to bad in my .300RUM
N-560 I believe is going to be the choice for my .260
