When I first ventured into reloading, I asked an older gentleman who was tending the counter at a local gunshop at that time "what would be the powder of choice for the 30-30 Winchester ?". Without much thinking and hesitation, He grabbed a can of IMR 4895 and handed it over to me. Many more cans of IMR had proceeded that first pound that I bought 22 years ago, and since then it is always my powder of choice when developing loads for a new rifle. It is no accident then that, when time came to developed a load for rifles that we're taking to Africa, IMR powder got the nod. I had burn more IMR powder than any other brands of powder combined, with 4350 on top of the list. It is the powder of choice for my 243 Winchester, 6MM Remington, 338 Win Mag and my friends 375 Weatherby. My 280 get a steady diet of 4831. I have a hunting load using IMR 4831 and Hornady 250 grain BTSP, that I developed for my 338 Lapua Improved that was so accurate that it's scary. For the 300's what better powder there is but the 7828. I know there are more modern propelant in the market these days but, they are non better than the old favorite in my opinion.
