Insect repellent

I have alot of ticks and bugs in my area. last year my son and I went to set up a remote predator call and got covered in ticks. We each easily had 40 or more on us when we placed the call and just as many when we got back to the truck. Not to mention all of the other bugs.

In an effort to comfortably prowel around the woods with minimal scent I am looking for an effective insect and tick repellent without alot of odor or one with a natural smell.
Any suggestions?

Where I hunt in CA, we have a lot of ticks. What I have used for several years, is a gear spray from Wal-mart. It's in with the regular insect repellent, but is for clothing, shoes/boots, and of course your gear. It works great. I just spray my hunting clothes the night before (outside) and bring them in to dry. When it dries, it bonds with the material and lasts a long time, so far the longest I've gone between re-applications is 3 months. It does smell when spraying/applying it, but once it dries, there's no odor at all.
It's in a metallic orange can with a blue lid. Cost was about $5.96 a can the last time I bought some.

Sawyers tick spray. Its for clothes. Has natural plant extracts. Repels and kills ticks and fleas. Works good.

Another vote for sawyers tick sprat for clothes worked real well for me.

I've used this stuff for years. It not only repels the little buggers but if they don't get off quick it KILLS them. Very effective and no smell.

I used the Repel permanone and was very pleased. Any bug that fell on me wanted off in a hurry. The misquitos buzzed me but wouldn't land :grin:

Y'all are talking about the same thing, permethrin based products.

Like one of the posters above, I usually just go to Wal-Mart and pick up several cans of the Repel or Sawyer's each season. You need to spray all of you external clothing before you hit the field. One application will last through at least one wash. DO NOT USE ON YOUR SKIN!

We have lots of ticks and fleas here in Texas and I have to spend time in the thick bush. I do a lot of predator calling, so I go out and sit in spots I wouldn't without permethrin. If I am saving the hides, I will also put the critters in a large bag and spray tick & flea spray into the bag right away.
