Interesting results from die comparison

Hmmmm.....makes sense. I will see about getting some of the unique or Imperial stuff at some point.

Right now, I may just run the loads off the RCBS dies, as I have a hunt coming up in 4 weeks and I'm breathing a small sigh of relief that I'm getting better consistency from the 300WSM.

I'd like to see what happens if you resize using the Hornady and seat with the RCBS, and vice-versa. That might be illuminating.

I'd do something like that myself, but all my rifle dies are Redding. I have been known to try and seat .220 Swift with a .243 Winchester seater, though.

Guys, I'll be honest, my main goal here I think has been met. My goal was to get some better consistency from the 300WSM rifle I own. Scotty gave me a good suggestion, and it seems to have worked. In the interest of sharing info, I posted my results. I understand this is an issue many of you are interested in exploring further, and I may in time, but it won't happen right now. Right now I'm in the beginning of the PA archery season, I have a pending job change in a month and a half, a wife leaving tomorrow for a work conference in FL till Sunday, and 3 daughters at home (ages 9, 7, and 11 months). The 11 month old is going with her mother, at least, but I'll have the older ones, lol.

And to top it off, I leave for a rifle hunt in NC later this month.

I just don't have the time, and to be honest, the inclination right now to rerun a bunch of variances on the testing I did. I found what I needed to find, and thought I'd share the data I collected.

Perhaps in the spring when I do more load work I can get back to this and will try some of the other suggested tests to run on this.

Till then, however, I don't expect to really dig deeper into this. I really do just plan to run more rounds made on the RCBS dies, get my zero tuned where I want it, and then make my hunting ammo and go hunt.

Tom, Tom, Tom, are you certain your priorities are in line? What can be more important than shooting? Well, okay, maybe your daughters, and I'll even concede that your wife can be important. All right, work can be important if you want to pay your bills. And it is true that hunting does lay a major claim to our lives. However, what's up with not having time? Sleep is highly overrated, and you could go without eating for a few days just to squeeze out a few hours. Come on man, get your priorities straight!

LOL.....I know, I know, I'm slacking. Forgive me.

In all honesty, I shoot because I like to shoot, but in the end, it's for hunting purposes. I don't shoot in competitions, although I would like to do that. It's one of those things I never seem to get started with, and one day I'm going to have to say "I'm going to start right NOW!" and get involved in competitive shooting somehow.

But for now, I am a hunter who likes to shoot. This time of year is "crunch time" for me if I have rifles not ready to rock. So far, I think I have 2 done (have to verify M70 Classic 30-06 is still on the dot), I have to rezero my 257 Bob, which should also be good to go once the new Minox on it is dialed in, and that'll make 3. If I get the pre-64's up to snuff, that's gravy, as those are the ones I wanted to hunt with. I may simply run out of time, though.

This is part of why I bought that spotter. I had some mad money coming in soon, there was a deal on it, and I needed another rifle to load for like I need a hole in my head.

This would be why a rifle that will remain a consistent 1" shooter is fine with me. Better is gravy, a little worse is tolerable till it can be brought into line. I'll take a Partition at 1.2" any day over a Ballistic Tip at 0.7", and so on and so forth.....

I don't think you'll ever be let down with a MOA shooter with PTs in the neck. Great shooting Tom. Looking forward to seeing what it does when you rezero.
