So I'm done hunting big game for the year, and its time to break out the Savage .243 and start busting yotes! Bought a box of 55 gr NBTs today (hope they can last till I get my hands on some seconds!) Loaded a bunch of pre prepped cases with 47.5 grs of H380 and will hit the range tomorrow. Hope they still shoot as good as they did lastyear.

After that I'll be loading up a bunch of the 105 Nosler custom comps and keep plinking around building a drop chart honing my shooting skills. I'm going to see if I can kill a yote at 800 yards with it this year. Got my feet wet last year with the longrange shooting, hoping I can get it figured out this winter a good bit better.

I love that gun!

Good luck Jake! Sounds like you are well prepped. The 243 is one of my rifles I need to dive into a little more. It has been good and accurate with alot of loads, and my son and myself have used it for a few deer hunts. With the shorter stock, it makes a nice winter rifle when I have a ton of clothes on. Might need to find some 55 or 70gr BT's to mess around with later in the year. I have rifle A-D-D, so it is hard for me to keep my attention on more than one thing for too long! Good luck, hope the load shoots. Scotty

Sounds good my man!
I have had great luck with H414 and Win 760. From a savage 11f 243 I usually get a little over 4K fps with a max load of each....... not that it is needed.

I love H414 with the 55 gr. NBT! But I had two pounds of H380 and no other use for it so I'm using it up. I'm getting 3960 fps, and half inch groups.

I am thinking about bumping up to a 70 gr. BT or a 87 gr V-Max though. Better for longer ranges. I think I only had one or two runners lastyear with the 55 BT though. Not to bad for over 20 dogs with that load.

I do love those 55s out of the big 6s... I've killed a couple hundred coyotes with that bullet out of my old 6mm Rem... I ran a lot of H414 and H4895 and always got 4K+. Made a few kills past 600 on coyotes with that bullet.

How is the pelt damage? Shot a lot of coyotes with the 100 grain partitions pelt damage is ok. Got a very nice dog yesterday with the AR; butt shot so there is only an enterance wound. I am hoping that pelts might be worth a little this winter.

Doesn't seem to be to bad. If you keep it off the shoulder I don't seem to have much of a problem with them.

Jake,

If you go up to the 70 gr BT, try 39.0-39.5 grs IMR 4895. This was the "Club Load" and there were 7-8 of us using this load and it what way under MOA for all of us! I had an old friend that used my M70 XTR with this load to will the Hunter Class Bench Rest League.

Well a few minor adjustments and I'm set. Not to bad for not having a back bag on the gun.

Well I missed one yesterday, so I had to put it on paper. It was an inch lefft and three inches high. Now its sitting 2 inches high, and any misses will be my fault.

Keep at it Jake, You will be smokin' yotes soon.

I think you will love that CDL! Let us know how it shoots. In January when they make the limited edition in 6mm I want to get one soooo bad.
