Not sure if I've mentioned her on this forum but I have a 10 yo daughter, she's hunted with me since age 4, she loves squirrel, rabbit, and groundhog hunting. She's deer hunted with me alot but never was interested in actually shooting a deer, she likes the tracking, gutting, dragging and all but just never wanted to shoot one. well grandma changed all that by putting a bounty on them. The only thing she likes better than hunting is shopping at tractor supply.
Thur. eve, grandma asked her to kill her a deer, she said she didn't think so, grandma said I'll give you that gun grandpa gave me if you kill me a deer, "grandma, I got alot of guns (4), she replied", "ok, grandma said, I'll give you that gun, ( savage 110 wood/blue 250/3000 savage NIB) and I'll buy your deer from ya for 25 dollars" that did it.
Now these does have been hunted hard for 2 weeks, not really easy to get a 10 yo close enough for a well placed shot, after seeing a bunch of deer fri eve with no success, this morning it was +7 degrees, but she was determined, we sat on a good crossing till 8:20, seeing nothing, she said "daddy, I'm really cold" so we went back to the truck and drove to another hunting area warming up along the way. we got out and were walking down an old road, 80 yards ahead I see a doe looking at us from the field edge, at least she's broadside I think as I pull her up and say deer at the edge of the next field just to your left, hold tight behind the shoulder, she raised the rem 7615 223, aims a bit, and bang/flop. I'm thinking boy those 55 gr sp's are hard on them in the lungs, I say now see what happens when you listen to daddy and shoot where I tell ya, she was grinning from ear to ear, I thought something was up.well here's the bullet entrance

I see it and ask her if thats where I told her to shoot, being the rebel like me, her response was: "well you tell me to shoot squirrels in the head and they're way smaller!"
what could I say? we had a talk about what would have happened if she would have pulled just a bit, but she said the crosshair was steady and she felt good about the shot.

So the kid has another deer rifle!

WOW what a story....Ms Deadeye !!!!!!!!!

Now, that is hilarious. Dad, you may need to ask her to give you some lessons!

Nice job both to you for raising her right, and for her for a dang good shot!
My son nailed his first muzzle loader deer this year the same way. A week after taking his first deer with a rifle. He was resting the smoke pole across my elbow and the deer was broadside at about 80 yards when I closed my eyes. When we got to the deer there was no hole in the side. I ask where did you aim? he said all I could see was the head and neck, so I aimed between the eyes.I couldn't have measured it better with a dial caliper! left eye bugged out but the hole was dead center between the eyes! Well- its obvious she dont need Grandma's big 250 Savage. If she dont want it I'll take it. (I didnt even know they had one in the catalog!?!?) You wont have to worry about her when the boys come around, just hand her a rifle and she'll put 'em in there place. Glad you made the shot young lady!! Its way cool that you and your Dad can hunt together. CL

Great story and good shootin by the young lady ! 8) Thanks for sharing !

BTW...How do you like that 7615 ?
I like it, triggers rough but it shoots MOA with cheap reman sp ammo, handy lil rifle with the 16.5" barrel.

JD, fine looking young hunter, and he appears to be off to a great start.
ya ever notice when ya make them eyes bug out like that, they just can't shake it off?
anyways, I feel just a bit dissapointed for the simple reason I think the reason my girl was so determined was because of two small pictures, Lincoln and jackson, so feels like my contribution to hunting is raising up a whitetail mercenary!!!!
at ten years old I would have and did, work my butt off for a used 30/30, and she turned down a for real deer rifle until grandma sweetened the pot. well she'll prolly grow up to be either a lawyer or a polititian.
but if that doe brings out that burning desire to hunt in her that I've carried all my life, I'll give grandma her money back.
Like I told JD if they're in the woods, they're not in the streets!

Sweeeeet!!!
Sorry, but I love the fact that she took it upon herself to shoot it between the eyes.
Great shootin!
