Certainly an underappreciated cartridge. That rifle looks very nice. Jeff, I'll be most interested in your load work. What bullet are you focused on trying at this point?

Thanks brian, i ended the life of the 6.5-284 last year and this is what i came up with.
Lawton 7000 have had yhis action for years and its been. Great
Bartlein 5R 1-8 twist heavy palma 26"
Manners T4 never owned one before gave them a shot.
Ptg bottom metal, inexspensive and well built uses the AI MAGS
badger low rings
Schmidt/bender 5-25x56 pmII P4F
Triad tactical stock pack

I am using the 168 custom comp to break it in, throat set up for a 180 berger hybrid.
Will also use the.noslers for practice, the bergers have somewhat of a ransom on them, apparently not enough because they are a bit scarce.

Nice. I find your choice of chambering interesting.

Great choice of cartridge Jeff. It is going to be my cartridge of choice also when I decide to build my true F-Class rig. I have a 9 twist/5C Broughton on hand and a 40X Remmy as donor action. What powder you are going to use on that baby.

Hodgdon 4831, around 54-56 grains with the 180 berger should get me close to 2800 fps. The reamer he used eas the one designed for necking up lapua 6.5-284 brass. I did a "break in" today, basically just sent 15 rounds through it then cleaned up the barrel a bit and will do another 15-20 round string tomorrow and that should take care of it. Looking promising so far. I dont have a scale but i am thinking loaded up 13.5 pounds.

Looks good. I've been contemplating a .284 for about a year but haven't brought myself to build one. Maybe after my 6.5x47 is done. Keep us updated.

Very nice build Jeff! That rifle looks awesome man.. The 284 is pretty cool as well, and 2800 with with a 180 is trucking! Should be the rifle you hammer alot of animals with. I know your 6.5-284 really did you well. Awesome rig man. Very cool!

Jeff that is a great looking rifle and the calibre is as Doc stated very under estimated! Good choice

Blessings,
Dan

I'm hoping my .284 will be ready by fall. I wouldn't dare compare against your, Jeff, but I love my Winnie, just the same.

Good looking precision rifle. I hope it shoots as good as it looks!

Guy

I would bet we will see some kills pretty soon. Knowing Jeff, he didn't build a rifle to look at!

Thanks everyone for the compliments, have shot 80 rounds of the 168 custom comps and a mild load of H4831.
Everything is looking so i will start putting the bergers through it. Might just be ready to point at a bear in a week or so, i still need to fire form the rest of that brass that joel annealed for me. I will keep you posted as i progress.

At 2800 with a 180 that puts a 160 right there with a 280 280 AI and a 7 RM at 3K. Impressive to say the least.

The bc is .674 with the 180 hybrid, it did shoot like crazy but i couldnt set up the oehler on account of the wind. I started seeing pressure signs at 55grains of H4831, this may be due to the 1-8 twistbarrel. I will get it through the oehler and post more info as i get it. Even at 2750ish it will be impressive.

Jeff

Very nice build. The 284 Win intrigues me.

Just shot the 180 hybrid through the oehler, fired five fouling shots first 2700 2760, 2768, 2768 2770.
Second string 2793,2793,2790,2796,2794. Group was under 1/2 moa and i am done with load development.
Always impressive how much a clean barrel will effect the first round in terms of velocity.
