Thanks to Guy Miner am now doing a whitetail hunt with Bearpaw outfitters in NE WA state. Since the distances are much shorter there I will be using a Savage 99 in 300 Savage. I will use 150gr Partitions. I couldn't think of a more classic woods deer rifle than the Savage. Now I've got to get on further load development and more field practice. By booking during the rut I have an extra month to prepare over the pronghorn hunt I didn't get drawn for. This is a for sure thing and it will happen. I don't have to wait for a draw. I'm really excited about this. Talk about a turn of events. Thanks to Guy and his encouragement to get out there and hunt.

That sounds great! Glad to hear things are coming together for a hunt this fall. I believe I do detect a fair measure of anticipation building.

One never needs an excuse to get out and hunt. It's what we do - it's what we enjoy & who we are.
Enjoy your time working up a load & practicing - when the moment comes you'll know it will be true, and it's at that moment one realizes ............ ;)
Good luck!

Am very happy that you're hunting this year! Washington or elsewhere. I think you'll be happy with the hunt with Bearpaw, Dale is a great guy and runs a good outfitting business. Tara cooks good enough to keep hunters coming back year after year.

I wouldn't anticipate a real long shot. Last season my friends Mike & Dani both got bucks, each at less than 150 yards. My son John got one at much closer range. A long shot could happen, but is unlikely.

Is the Savage scoped?

We may bump into each other there at the lodge. I'd like to tag along with Mike & Dani again, but I may be up in the Cascades after mule deer by then, with that rut-hunt tag.

I'm sure you'll see plenty of deer, and you're very likely to get on a decent buck pretty quickly.

Best of luck to you!

Guy

Thanks for the well wishes. I appreciate it. Guy, yes its got a 2-7 leupold on it. I have to get low rings for it, I just discovered that as I haven't shot it in so long. I can't get a good cheek weld on it. Yes Dr. Mike there is considerable excitement building.
