I need some help. I know that with revolvers you should always "crimp" your case neck around the bullet to prevent the bullet from "slipping" in or out of the case during recoil.

Lee advertises that with their 3-die set, you do not have to crimp the case due to minimal flaring of the case mouth during resizing.

Has anyone seen this to be the case or do you need to go ahead and buy the roll crimp die as well? BTW, this will be for the .41 mag!!

TIA

Always roll crimp revolver ammo. The recoil of a round like the 41 mag could cause bullet movement. The neck tension is what has the most grip on the bullet but, won`t always do it by it self.
The idea of minimum mouth flare is a good one. I like the Lyman "M" die just because of the way they handle it. No matter though, there is still some "belling" that needs to be removed from the moths to insure feeding if nothing else. Your die set should have a crimper, either as part of the seater/die assembly or as a seperate die. Lee likes to push their "Factory Crimp Dies" so your set may not and you will possibly need to purchase one.

I'm not sure about the 41mag die sets, but if it's available buy the 4 die set that has the factory crimp die included. I use the factory crimp die for 9mm, 45acp, 357mag, 357sig, and a few rifle calibers and would not go without them. They will iron out any imperfections in the loaded round and virtually guarantees the round will chamber and puts a nice crimp on in the process.

I checked Lee's website on this exact thing and there was no .41 Mag available per the site..I guess you might could still find a set somewhere.

great dies

POP,

this is exactly what I was looking at, but my question is will it crimp or do I need to buy the crimper die??

Yes that 3 die set will be able to crimp the round if you set the die properly. But it is very easy to crush the case if seating and crimping at the same time. The way I've done it is seat the bullets first then readjust the die to crimp. Then I purchased the factory crimp die sets and have learned that they are very easy to work with and do a great job. So to answer your question, yes the set will do it but personally I would spring for the FCD also.

Thank you very much. I think I will spring for the FCD also.
