Lets see some short range rigs

Well as I live and have lived in areas known more for longer range shots at game my rifles for short range kind of have to do double duty. Most, if not all my der hunting since about 1873 has been done for the most part with two rifles. A Remington 660 and a Ruger M77 RSI. Both are chambered to the .308 Win. cartridge. The most interesting fact is the Remington 660 has been responsible for the shortest and longest range shot. The shortest was 6 feet and the longest 426 paces on its first time out on a hunt. The bullet both times was the 150 gr. Sierra Pro-Hunter.

The shortest shot for the RSI was 30 feet and the longest 250 yards. The bullet used was the Speer 165 gr. Hot Core.

It's nice to have a rifle on hand that is reasonably capable to work at both ends of potential shots at big game. The fact that they're reasonably light doesn't hurt one bit, especially when up on some high mountain.

Awesome pictures fellas. Great thread.

Some rifles used in short range pursuits..

I can make all kinds of excuses for all kinds of rifles to be used in specific places, but all in all, for short range stuff where you're in the woods a nice optic on a light/well balanced rifle makes a great one for me, and SS/Fiberglass stocks make alot of sense too when stuff gets wet.
Nice collection of rifles and bucks👍
