Limb Saver

I have done a limited test on it on my Savage 110 in 270. I tried
it in only one position (about 1" from the fore end of the stock). The test results are below:

"Limb-Saver Barrel De-Resonator" Test

Conditions: Temp=65 , Wind=5 MPH @ 7:00 o'clock , Ammo Temp= 65 (kept in shade)

Test Parameters: Savage 110 (1985) , 270 Winchester , Ammo= Hornady Light Mags (1 full box) , 140 gr Interlock , Groups were each 5 shots , Range=100 yds

The unit was installed per manufacturers instructions (1" from the stock)

Cleaning procedure below:

Wet patch with Remington "Bright Bore"
Wet patch with Sweet's (and wait 5 minutes)
Dry patch
Wet patch with JB bore paste (10 swipes)
2 dry patches
3 swipes with bore snake with Remington "Bore Bright"
2 dry patches

1st group with cold clean barrel (dry) barrel WITHOUT De-Resonator

-Barrel was allowed to cool to "barely warm" after 1st group but not cleaned

2nd group was WITHOUT De-Resonator

-Barrel was allowed to completely cool (ambient temp) and cleaned per above procedure prior to 3rd group

3rd group was WITH De-Resonator

-Barrel was allowed to cool to "barely warm" after 3rd group but not cleaned

4th group was WITH De-Resonator

Groups (5 shot) were as follows:

1st grp(without) = 2.40" ---best 4 grp = 1.15"
2nd grp(without) = 1.30" ---best 4 grp = 1.00"
3rd grp(with) = 1.95" ---best 4 grp = 1.10"
4th grp(with) = 1.30" ---best 4 grp = 0.80"

The location of the groups on the target was virtually the same.

Conclusion drawn from this very limited test: Discounting "flyers" from the clean barrel groups and using the "best 4 grps", I would say that the Barrel De-Resonator is somewhat effective in tightening groups, if only marginal. However, I would recommend repeating the test using the same parameters except start the test WITH the De-Resonator and finish WITHOUT it. This particular rifle seems to "like" a fouled barrel, which could have corrupted the test slightly. Given the close results of this test, a reverse order test would be needed to absolutely validate this one.
