Just ordered a couple of boxes the other day and was wondering if anyone has loaded these. I am shooting a Tikka T3.

What powder and charge have you used?

On another site it was recommended ot go with either RL22 or IMR7828.

We have had great success with IMR 7828 and RL22.

72.0grains of IMR7828 2800fps

70.5grains of RL22 2900fps.

I worked up a load for my .300 Winchester Magnum using the 200 grain AccuBond this summer. I settled on:

Winchester Brass - New
Federal 215M Primer
Nosler 200 grain AccuBond
Hodgdon H1000 - 80.5 grains

Note that this is 1/2 grain over max in Hodgdon's No. 26 Manual, but shows no visible pressure signs. However, I know that I must be up there as my average velocity is 3038 fps 12 feet from the muzzle.

This load has grouped wonderfully in my Browning A-Bolt and has accounted for a 4x4 mule deer and a 5x5 elk this fall.

Couldn't be happier with the performance either.

RL 25 works quite well if 22 and 7828 do not work out for you.

+1 on RL22. I am getting 2900+ out of my 300WM w/24" tube and 200gr GK's. I can't see you going wrong with RL22, RL25 or maybe Retumbo also. Scotty

H1000 does great also. This is why Bruce Hodgdon named it that. In the 300 Winnie it won quite a few competitions at 1000 yards.
Hence the H-1000.

Try RL-25 in Win cases 215M Great group at 75gr, work up and see what it does for you.....

I just tried the RL-25 in my Remington 700 with R-P brass, CCI 250 primers, 75 gr RL-25 , 200 AB and groups are great. I have not chrono'd the load yet, but it sure groups!

OldMan
a 75 grain charge of RL25 chronied out of my Winchester with a 26" barrel at 2870s.
ReTumbo is an other powder worth trying.

Has anyone tried to take this load up higher than this? Anyone chrono'd the load in a 24 inch barrel? I'm wondering if mine is even 2800 now, can't chrono it as it's overcasr today. I would like to get this accuracy with at least 2850 in my 24" barrel. It kicks like it has more poop than my 180 gr R22 loads at 3000! I made up my mind I'm going to use this rifle for an upcoming cow elk hunt with 200 AB's, you just can't beat one hole accuracy and the confidence it gives!

73-74gr of RL22 will get you 2850-2950FPS out of your 24" barreled 300 Win. I run the 200gr Sierra's at 2940 with 74gr of RL22 and it is shoots pretty well. I am going to work up to the same load with the 200gr PT. Scotty

Need a bit of help. Chrono'd my Remington 700 300 win mag (5R) 26" barrel with 200 gr accubonds today and was amazed to see 2741 fps. Book value shows 2862fps for imr 4831 powder @67 grains. 112 fps slower?
RL 22 72.5 grains chrono'd bit quicker then book @2965fps groups .830"
Note:imr4831 get same hole accuracy likely going to be my load. O.485"

Altitude 5413 ft, 65f 79%rh 30.220Hg

Any thoughts?
Again thanks in advance

Robert

Robert,

Welcome to the forum. Is this a new container of power? It almost sounds as if you have a fast lot. Powder can vary in burn rate quite a bit between lots, and the simplest explanation for your observation is that you have a fast lot. The RL22 is about where I'd predict it should be, which rules out the possibility that the chronograph was malfunctioning or not complete unfolded (if it is a Shooting Chrony).

Mike is spot on. I would assume you have a faster lot of RL22. That isn't far off what I get with 73gr's so you sound pretty good to me. RL22 and 200's seems to work in just about every 300WM I have tried it out of. Great speed and excellent accuracy. Anything North of 2850 is gravy with those 200's. They are sleek and hold up really well at longer range. Scotty

Thanks for the quick feedback.
Brand new 1 lb. As for the chrono graph was at 10 ft and fully deployed. It was a sunny day.
Expected to see faster rather then slower with the extra 2 inches of barrel.

Well at this point this load will have to work for Elk.

Welcome to the forum Robert.
Powder lots can vary up to 10% from one lot to another.

How old was the powder you used?

Powered was made 0611.
The variability from lot to lot is burn rate? or Fps?

Thanks

Looks like case could be solved Nosler book page 404 is about 24 - 120 fps faster then IMRPowder site rating for their powders looks like measurement difference. Huge variance over book. Looks like its very important to verify your loads before you hunt...
