I just bought a Savage 11BTH with the thumbhole stock. I plan to use it for varmints, but want a heavier high BC bullet that will not wreck bobcats like the 75gr V-max bullets I use in my other 243 will. I've already established that it does not like 90gr Scirocco's but none of my other 243's do either. I've not yet tried another bullet. Since there is not yet a 6mm AccuBond out yet, what loads have you guys tried with a 85-100gr bullet that works with this twist? If you don't want to give load data out on the forum please PM me and I will go from there. I have a good variety of 6mm bullets and powders available, as I have 2 other 243's with 1 in 10 twists. Deer season ends tomorrow and all the coyotes I have been passing on to keep from spooking deer are fair game starting monday!

Thanks for your help!

I also used the 85gr Sierra GK in my 243 with Varget. Seems like it was in the 3200-3300 realm and pretty accurate. Not sure how it would work on cats though. They are kinda tough. Scotty

I'm also getting ready to load up some , coyote loads in the .243, I have the 60 gr blitz king and 75 gr v-maxes, has any one tried RL-17 behind the lighter bullets?

Nosler is offering a 243 90 gr AB for 2011. The part number is 56357, BC .376, SD .218. This might be the bullet you are looking for but keep in mind that a bobcat hide is this and any bullet with velocity is going to tear it up. Stay off the bones.

I am kinda excited to see the 90gr AB. Should be able to get great speed out of them and they should be sheer terror on deer and coyotes. Scotty

Have you got out to get a yote or 2 yet? I was wondering how your load /rifle was working out?

I shot 2 with it, but have decided not to keep the rifle. It shoots great with 100gr Sierra gamekings but not well with any 75-90gr bullet I've tried. The velocity from the 22" barrel is 2850fps with my most accurate load, and I want a little more speed to fit my Leupold Varmint Hunter crosshair. I have it for sale on Gunbroker, it shoots under an inch with IMR4831 and the 100gr Sierra.

I should be picking up it's replacement this week. I am getting a new Kreiger 6mm barrel for my old custom 243 to replace it's worn out one. The gunsmith said he would have it finished by Tues or Wed, so I will to working up loads and start shooting more coyotes with it.

I ended up with 37 yotes for 2010, and have 10 so far in 2011. Got one today, we've had snow on the ground most of the month so they've been active and easy to spot. I've mostly been using my old Winchester 670 in 243 with the 75gr V-max until I get the new one going.

mcseal2,

You're doing okay on coyotes this year. It will be interesting to hear how your new one works.

I shot some RL-17 with the 70 BT this weekend in my .243. Best three shot group was .287".

Jake,

Nothing wrong with that sort of grouping. I should think it would work on coyotes!

Id look at a 80g NBT if I was you then.

Stoke it with some 4350 and you should be getting 3300-3400fps and under MOA.

I've been playing with 70g NBTs with all 3 variety of 4350s. Shoots them all under MOA, best being AA4350 so far at 45g for low .2s at 3300. 47g IMR4350 shot .35" didn't crony these but should be 3550-3600, these were borrowed from my moms 243... Also 47- 47.5g H4350 shot .8" at 3550- 3600fps as well. Will work more with H4350 next weekend as I just bought another pound and this is the 4350 I'd like to use for several reasons. One being extreme series powder, velocity, accuracy, and lot to lot consistency.

If a 243 wont shoot with any of the 4350s, its very likely it wont shoot with anything...

My first load with my .243 was 70gr BTs and 42.0 grains of Varget. I could get 3440FPS with the 26" tube and shoot very tiny groups with it. The load that im using to fireform .243AI brass is 95 BTs with 44.0gr of Hybrid 100V.
