Worked up some 30-06 loads today using Nosler brass and the Nosler 165 Grain Ballistic Tip with IMR 4451.
Really looking forward to seeing how this combo works. I'll have to find time to shoot them between my archery practice.

wish I could scare up a couple of pounds of 4451. Good luck with your loads.

Thank you Bruce.
I traded 8# of 4350 for 8# of 4451. :) Still have a few containers of 4350 left that I may trade if this works like I want it to in my 30-06, 6.5x284, and .338 Win Mag .

IMR 4451 is on the list to try along with IMR 7977. Going to save the remaining H 4350 for my wife's 6.5x55 since it shoots so well with it. Good luck with your loads.

Good luck with it. I have heard nothing but good things about 4451 so far. Seems to be doing everything it is advertised as doing..

I was feeling pretty good about this first two shots with 4451 but still some work to do. Interested how your work with it turns out.

I'll post pics later this weekend.
I've got one load, three shots, that is MOA at 200 meters. The rest look like shotgun patterns.

I'm going to increase the powder charge by half a grain and see what that gives me. I'm also going to play with the seating depth a little bit.

What sorta speeds are you getting from it Vince? Pretty similar to 4350?

Where are the BT arranged as compared to the rifling in your loads?

Scott,

I just loaded them according to the Nosler manual COAL.
How far off the lands do the BT's like to be usually?

As with most cup-and-core bullets, most do well closer to the lands. Thus, setting them anywhere from 0.010 to 0.020 inches off the lands will usually give good accuracy.

Thank you good sir and happy Sunday!

Here's what I got at 200 meters using 56.5 grains of IMR 4451 with a 3.320 COAL.

Vince you don't look to darned bad to me. Any idea what sort of speeds you are getting?

Hopefully if your not topped out charge wise you could look for more accuracy once you get it up closer to 60K PSI.

I'm going to increase the charge by half a grain and play with seating depth.

I would think you should get an easy 2900 out of them and since 4451 is very similar to 4350 I'd bet it'll take a little more juice to get it up to speed.

According to the book I'm just under max. I'm showing a little, very little, primer flattening but I think I can go a wee bit hotter, 0.20 grains over book max.
I'll see how my cases look after I shoot them. I'm also going to increase the COAL by 0.020". That should relieve some pressure.

Any idea what speed your getting? Reason I ask is speed is a better determiner of pressure than just about anything else.

No idea.
I don't have access to a chrono for a couple of weeks.

Gotcha. Totally understand. Those 168 BTs ripping along around 2900 should be a nice combo for you. They have a lot going for them.
