I'm going on a whitetail hunt in central Louisiana mid-November. Not only have I never hunted whitetail, I've never hunted east of the New Mexican plains. I'm told we'll be hunting from ground blinds with shooting lanes up to a couple of hundred yards. I would like opinions on which gun to take:

1) Winchester Model 88 .308 w/Weaver fixed 4X--165 gr PT's or BT's?
2) Ruger M77 7mmRemMag w/Weaver 2X10X38--160 gr AB's
3) Browning A-Bolt 7mmSTW w/Leupold 4X12X40AO--160 gr AB's

jd,

Any one of the three canidates will get the job done out to 200 yds +. Which gun are you most comfortable with and which gun shoots the best? If both answers are the same rifle, you have your answer. If not, pick the rifle you are most comfortable with. Either way, practice from field positions and hunt with confidence.

I agree which ever gun fits you the best, comes up quickly, and shoots accurate enough out to a couple hundred yards. You might not get a lot of time to get off a shot at a big buck that is moving.

Like 7mm said they may be moving. If they are just grunt or whistle or holler or kick the blind. They'll stop which should be their last mistake.

I carry a dieing rabbit predator call, stops them every time.
