M70 338-06AI

I forgot about Weatherby and Cooper, but also not quite what I was thinking. Still very under rated. due not to having a belted case, jmo.

Congrats it is coming along nicely

I've got bit with the .338-06 bug a couple of years ago. And, in a moment of weakness (not really) ordered a brand new Mark VII rifle from E.R. Shaw. It was delivered last week and I could not be happier with the purchase. If the Mark VII shoots half the way it looks I am going to be a very happy camper. Again congrats.

Congratulations! I'm certain we'll all want to hear your range reports. I don't doubt that it is attractive.

I have not taken any of it yet (waiting on scope base) But, as soon as I get the scope installed I'll snap a few "Gun Porn" quality pics and post them here.

It actually came up better than I expected. The fit and finish is outstanding.

Tobey,

It's in a Mcmilian Winchester Supergrade stock pillared Pre-64 action. 24" 1-9" #4 CM Pac-Nor.

John,

That's what I was thinking was 225 AB. We will find out shortly.

NICE SETUP!!!

I love my 338-06AI built with a PacNor barrel cut to 24" that sits on a Sako m75 Greywolf. 225gr AB's are the MEDICINE!!!!

The 210 Partition or the 225 Partition both should be stellar performers in this caliber. I would guess that you can get 2600 fps out of the 225 PT and 100 fps more from the 210 PT? Either way, elk are in trouble.

Tomorrow is a big range day. Got the Swede loaded for LD 22-250 for LD a few 160 & 175 PT's outta the 280 and 90 rounds out of the 338 for fireforming hopefully I will still have a shoulder left!!! Plus a few jug tests.

Jake, you can do it. If I can do it, at my present weight and physical shape, you can too! I have confidence that the .338-06 is not going to be a bad rifle to shoot? Equivalent to a Whelen certainly but not that bad!

My T3 LS 270WSM with 140gr AccuBond reloads had more felt recoil than my Sako Greywolf 338-06AI with 225gr AB's.

Go have some fun fireforming!! I used medium/hot loads to fireform Norma 338-06AS stamped brass.

Shoulder surgery is cheap. Go pull the trigger. It might be a little tough were you up here. It has warmed to -19C this morning. I'll be interested to see what the rifle does once you are able to work up a few loads.

That's a nice package. I'm definitely interested in your range results.

I'm still a bit up in the air as to whether I should make mine a 35Whelen or a 338-06AI. Have always leaned towards a Whelen or Whelen AI but never overwhelmingly. You haven't helped....

Well tested some loads today and at 28 degrees she said no more at 2795 with a 225 AB so I've met my goals now I can fine tune something for her.

Jake, even at 2750, that is a really good load. I would imagine you won't have a single issue with elk at 2750 and the 225 AB.

Yeah that's what I was thinking. It is flat pleasant to shoot also. I think that's the best part of it.

That is a great looking rifle & the caliber will do you well :)
With a little bit of tuning the Elk are going to be very nervous once you have
the crosshairs on them.

Blessings,
Dan

It's been fun, seeing this rifle & load progress towards completion. The load looks good. That 225 gr AccuBond at nearly 2800 fps should prove to be a lethal combination! I'd think that anywhere from 2600 - 2800 fps with accuracy would be acceptable for hunting.

Looking forward to further range reports, and of course to your hunt results too!

Regards, Guy
