Well, I like the rail so much, I decided to ditch the Leupold rings and bases and went with the Weaver Tactical Base and Leupold QRW LOW Matte finish rings. I put the VX3 2.5x8 with the B&C reticle back on the 338WM. Should have the new stock pretty shortly. Should really bring some justice back to the mighty 338 Winchester Mag! That stupid plastic stock makes me madder everytime I look at it, but it has had a useful life and shot well, so I can't complain too much. Scotty

Nice!

You could perhaps use that on elk in a far away place some time. You will need to get some scratches on the new stock !

How did you find room for it on your bench?

It is either going to be that 338 or my Whelen. Then of course, I am dragging Big Iron (M1895 45-70) along with me also! I figure between them, I should be okay! Scotty

Looks like that rifle means business, Scotty. Good show. Now, to see some results.

Soon enough Mike. Just as soon as the stock gets here, I will get it bolted on and run some known good loads through it. After that, I will begin working with the 250gr PT's. I already have a batch loaded with RL22 and RL19. I have a goal of 2700+ and MOA or better. I am thinking I should get there. If not, I have some great 275gr Speer loads with RL22 that shoot unreal and should be better with a new stock on it, at least for anything over three rounds! Scotty

Scotty,

The 338 WM looks great! The new wood stock will really complete the make over.

Remind me again, what stock did you get?

I have a 50/50 black/white McSwirley Supergrade waiting for me when I get home, to put on my .300. Get to see it tomorrow or Friday!

I got a tan with black spiderweb Bell and Carlson Medalist. Joel has a green one and likes it so I figured it was worth the gamble. I am not really a knowledgeable stock guy. I just wanted something strong and stable. Im hoping the B&C will fit the bill. Heck, if nothing else it has a proper recoil pad on it! Scotty

Scotty,

I stand corrected. I had thought you were getting a wood stock. The black spiderweb Bell and Carlson Medalist
will look great and give you the performance you are looking for.

Scotty -
You will like the B&C stock. Felt recoil will go down,(I know that doesn't matter to a strong jarhead), :p and it will have a light balanced feel to it.

I think the base and rings look great on both of your rifles and will be the way I go with the 6.5 when it gets done.

Nice looking rifle and the B&C stock should be a welcome addition. I AM NOT a synthetic fan at all, but of the synthetics I have felt and held, I really like the stock on my son's Winchester Extreme Weather SS and it is a B&C that the factory puts on them. It's not real noisy like a lot fo them are and it feels more "solid" than a lot of them do. Good choice I believe coming from a non-believer!

Scotty, getting rid of that black tupperware stock will be a fine upgrade! My M70 is wearing a McSwirly. If I remember right it is 60% black, 20% white, and 20% grey.

Nice work on the rings and base. Looks sharp.

I am really not a synthetic fan either, but this is my rifle that will go to Alaska with me if I ever get the chance to hunt the big bears. I want it to be as fool proof as possible.

Jake, your rifle looks great as well. I am dieing to get it back out to the range and see how it does with the new stock on it. Scotty

That is a sharp lookin rifle even with the "milk jug" stock. Relly like those "black and tans" though. It should be a real looker. C:L
