Anybody have any experience "necking up" 22-250 Brass to make loads for the 250 Savage. Seems like a lot of differences (just looking at the diagrams for each) almost lke necking up and then "fire forming". Maybe I'm wrong? Thanks for the thoughts. CL

G'Day Fella's,

Cloverleaf, you maybe able to neck down the 6.5 Creedmore case to .25 Cal!
It may be a bit short (?) or may need a bit of trimming but Hornady cases are available for this cartridge.

Unfortunately, I think the 6.5 x 47 Lapua case is a bit to short for this which is a pity!

Hope that helps

Cloverleaf -

I have done this before by just running the .22-250 brass up into the .250-3000 die. Due to the fact that there is a little final forming done when you fire it, I loaded middle of the road powder charges for their first firing but had no pressure issues. I used 37 grains of H380 with a standard primer and some economy 100 grain .257 bullets to make it happen. Let us know how this works out for you friend.

I did some about 25 years ago for my cousin for his Savage leaver action 250 Savage. All I did was run the 22-250 cases into the 250 Savage FL die and loaded. From my records I loaded 35.3 grs IMR 4064 with Remington cases and Rem. 9 1/2 primers and used Sierra 100 gr Spitzer OAL 2.515. His rifle would shoot under 1" all day and he killed a PILE of deer with this load.

Sweet.... 22-250 NOSLER Brass could be my supply. A bit spendy but everybody says its worth it . I have a couple hundred rounds of New Rem brass but with current "shortages" and "hoarding" .... I will sleep better now. :) CL

I do believe you can also make it from 300 Savage by just running it threw a 250-3000 sizer.
Another cartridge Newton did right.

Good show Troy. You are good to go.
The Nosler brass is very good, worth the extra money.

Do it in steps or use a die like hornady with an elliptical expander. NOT a RCBS

Elliptical Expander
Superior to “ball expanders,” this Hornady exclusive provides extremely smooth neck sizing and significantly reduces friction and case neck stretch. Internal threading prevents it from pulling loose and the elliptical expander also eliminates the need for a separate expander die for necking-up to the next caliber.

Fotis - was able to this in one step thru a Lee FL die set which I believe has an extremely tapered expander ball. Had never heard of an elliptical expander before today. Good to know!

So that elliptical carbide sizer sounds like the ticket. RCBS dosent make one (or the Hornady one wont work in an RCBS die? (See- showing off my ignorance again...) Thanks for the knowledge. CL
UPDATE- Midway sells a Hornady one made to fit RCBS dies, but not in .25 Cal.
