I have always liked high gloss wood finish on rifles and am thinking about touching up my ruger hawkeye african to give it a better shine. Talked to a few people who suggested knocking back the stock finish with rottenstone and then rubbing on a brownells triple f compound to make it shine.

Does anyone else have any suggestions or pics???

I don't want to get so involved that I having to re oil with tru oil or anything that indepth.

If you want "POP" along with weather protection, you should simply prepare the stock and then spray (wipe on) a poly finish that matches your "gloss" wants. Wayyyy simple.

I am with Ed there. Find a nice Satin or Semi Gloss and have at it. I use alot of Armor Seal on furniture and it is tough. Another good way to make it stand out is with some good, quality furniture wax. Sometimes the finish just needs a little buffing to make them look GREAT again.

Speaking of which, I might need to pay a little attention to mine! Too many things to do!

Wow Idaho - I've been known to sand down a perfectly good high-gloss finish to dull it...

Guess we're at different ends of the spectrum there. I do admire the high gloss/fancy figured wood on a Weatherby that belongs to a buddy of mine.
