Here are a couple pics of USMC89's MS 257 Roberts. Pretty slick rifle, looks like it has seen alot of hunting! Scotty

That is a great little rifle. I'm doing some load work on an MS 7mm-08 right now. Chambered in 257 Bob, it would be a great little rifle.

Thanks for posting scotty actually not mine my buddies grandfather past away and this is what he got. He is going to bring it over I can't wait to shoot it. Not a fan of wood on rifles but I do like wood no O/U and SXS shotguns I like this rifle.

Very nice rifle. The 257 Roberts ia an American classic, under rated in many ways.

With good hand loads, its not too far behind the 25-06.

Your right about the roberts, I never owned one but have had a few 6mm remingtons both standards and ackleys. There great in a single shot platform like I had a custom mauser and a cooper. The only thing is that there a bit long for a short action with a magazine. Maybe that is why the 243. Became more popular god knows the 6mm can do anything the 243 can a 100fps faster, and improved you can double that. Another awesome overlooked cartridge.

I've never seen a scope with the turrets out front like that . pretty cool . Jim

I agree on all accounts.
My 700 Classic 257 Roberts is a long action. The COL for my load with the 110 gr AB is 2.965" and I am .025" off the lands.

Thanks for sharing the photos. I haven't seen a M-S rifle in a long time. She's a beauty!

That is a unique old piece. Very neat. It just says, "hunt with me!" Dosent it? CL

The Mannlicher Schoenauer Model that I had was the 1952 version which is a little newer than this one in the pictures. Mine was a .270 Winchester with full stock, same cheek piece, slightly different checkering and a 21 inch barrel. It was a good hunter but ballistics did not do justice to the .270 with the short barrel. Plus the split sidemount design on my particular rifle model did not hold scope zero very well sometimes. I also had a Redfield (4x in my case) scope on mine, or is that a Kollmorgan?

I used it to kill a couple of Texas whitetail and sold it. Now of course they are getting pretty scarce.

I used to have one of these in 6.5x54 MSch. standard Mannlicher Schonauer, attached pic of me at Bisley, UK in 1990.
The bolt action on these is so silky slick, with the rifle clear, if you hold the trigger back and tip the rifle forward, the bolt slides and locks all by itself. Magical action.

.257 Roberts wasn't a Mannlicher calibre, so this one has been re-chambered.....no bad thing, if only because pretty much every Mannlicher Schonauer I ever came across had head spacing problems, with resulting short case life when reloading.
Three reloads & the case was done....! But then, they were built for & bought mainly by people who didn't reload back in those days. Just used RWS or Kynoch factory ammunition.

They are superbly built, beautifully performing rifles.
Cheers, Tom
