Here is a picture of the Mark V Synthetic 30-06 that will be here Thursday. When it gets here I will post a picture of it with the Zeiss Conquest on it. I will use this thread to post my load development.

I was out with two rifles today one with a 3x9 conquest and the other with a 3.5x10 Leupold vxIII.
The Zeiss is very clear. The Zeiss @ 9x had a clearer and more defined image than the VXIII @ 10x.
Great choice for your rifle

Thanks oid#7, I understand your comparison between the two because all my rifles use to carry VXIII's now all my rifles carry Zeiss Conquest for that very reason. I use the conquest after almost 10 months of scope research and hunting for what I thought was the best for the buck spent. Of course I have used Zeiss now for the last two years.

The Mark V Synthetic 30-06 got here today and here it is with the scope on it. I will go to the range tomorrow and will post the results of shooting some time Friday evening or Saturday morning.

Very nice bullet. What are you going to use for your load development?

No matter how you put it, "There's just something about a Weatherby"!
It's the things dreams are made of. Kind of like a trip to Africa or being an astronaut. It's just something special that kids like me (50 years ago) hoped they'd achieve.
P.S. Nice looking rifle and I agree with you about Zeiss scopes.
Good Hunting

JD, I am for the moment going to use 165gr bullets, AccuBond, Game King HPBT, Partition and the 168gr TSX.

Powders I will try will be IMR4350, H4350, H380, H4831sc, IMR4320 and IMR4895.

Brass will be Winchester

Primers will be 210 Fed

Greg, you stir my heart with excitement as that is what I dreamed about when I was young. A Weatherby rifle and hunting in Africa. I got an email today from my work telling me that I might go to Tanzania the last week in July and the first week in August. What makes that so special is if I do go, they told me that the next trip I could go and hunt while I am there. Now I will find out Tuesday if they are really going to send me. I sure hope so because that means the next time I go to Tanzania I get to hunt and guess what? My 375Wby will be making that trip. :)

Here is my initial effort at the range this morning with the first 165gr bullet I tested which is the Sierra Game King HPBT using IMR4350, IMR4895 and H380. The pictures are velocities and groups which are max loads with the above mentioned powders and bullet. It is encouraging both in accuracy and velocities and I believe I will be able to tighten up my groups some more by not having to shoot through the chrony but solely focusing on my target. These groups are already good hunting groups but I think I can close them up. Still have to test the AccuBond, Partition and TSX.

Yes, the 4350 I surely could go hunting with it now but want to see if a few things will tighten it up and will be shooting the 4320 load again because I moved on my second shoot and ruined my group.

I went back to the range real early this morning and started shooting by 7:20am. I upped my load a half grain with the IMR4350 load and did not exceed a safe load. Here is pictures of the group which is a little over an 1 1/4", and the case which extracted very easily and the average velocity. Now I have not cleaned my barrel since I started my first shot to test loads because I want to see how long it would go before it was very evident I need to clean the bore. I will clean it now and see if this group gets back to the size of the last group I shot yesterday.

That's some nice speed you're getting out of a 165. Hope you can shrink your group a bit but for hunting purposes, I think you're just about there!

Yes, I will clean my bore, then shoot three fouling rounds then I will shoot a five shot group with this load and that will tell me what I need to know.

YoteSmoker, I am actually getting 3296-3300ft pounds of energy at muzzle with this load. And 2750 at 100yds, 2275 at 200yds, 1862 at 300yds and at 400yds still have 1509ft pounds of energy and that is not shabby for a 30-06 :):):)

I am going to the range tomorrow and will be doing a final test for the HPBT with IMR4350 shooting a five shot group and also a five shot group with H4831sc and H380. Will be adjusting seating depths on all the loads which these loads are the max for my rifle and all are over 2950fps with one being over 3000fps. What ever one is the most accurate that will be the deer load for my 30-06. Tomorrow will be an exciting day for me as I conclude this stage of my load development for my newly obtained 06. Years of loading for and hunting with the 06 in the past has really cut the experimenting time down and has given some quick and good results. Will post results some time tomorrow afternoon.

Personally, I'm gonna guess the IMR4350 to be the winner and H414 to be a better burning rate than H380 with that bullet weight....wating to hear the results.

Well, today was interesting to say the least. Is it what I would have liked? Not exactly!! Was it a success in someways? Yes!! Would I enter a shooting competition with this load??? NO!!! I was able to accomplish some things that really makes me happy about my Mark V Synthetic 30-06 and my deer load.

1. By adjusting my OAL and giving my bullet just a little more jump. I was able to increase my velocities by 53fps over last time using 60grs IMR4350.

2. My shot group is enough to hunt with even though I wish it was a tighter group. I attribute this group size and the way it turned out to the fact that it was not the first group I shot today. Also that the walking up and down the range to get a very close look at my groups because I for got my spoting scope did not help my heart rate. Then I got a phone call from work saying I need to get there earlier than I had planned and I could not take the time between shots I wanted so the barrel was on the hot side.

3. I have decided to go ahead and use this load for my deer hunting and some time next spring I will be putting a B&C Metalist stock on my 30-06.

4. Here are the pictures of the range, target and average velocity of those five rounds.

Being a little over an inch will be ok in my opinion for my hunting load as I believe I will tighten it up just a bit by having more time between shoots and not getting my heart rate up.

I will being going to the range again the end of this week and I think I will be able to tighten up the five shot group buy doing the following.

1. Not shooting through the Chrony and having that as an added issue when I try for a good group.

2. I will take my spotting scope this time for real close up looks at my target and not have to walk up and down the range between groups keeping my heart rate low.

3. I will let the barrel completely cool down between shots so as to see how it groups with a cold barrel for the five shots.

4. The last time I did not trim all my case lengths the same but was close because I got in a hurry at the bench, in other words got sloppy and I have corrected that this time.

I believe that I will be able to tighten my group up and be able to use this as a hunting load and take advantage of the great velocities my rifle is giving me. I tested some 165gr Winchester Sliver Tips and they went across the chrony on the average of 2823fps. Also shot some 300gr TSX's out of my .375Wby just to make sure the chrony was responding in a correct manner and they went across the chrony on the average of 2779fps. So my chrony is correct and the 30-06 Mark V Synthetic is getting some might fine and fast velocities and I think that is so cool.

Here are some ballistics using the 165gr HPBT at an average of 3060fps: 3430 pounds of energy
