Marlin Bolt action rifle

I have been impressed with the two XS-7 7mm-08 rifles I have been exposed to. Pillar bedded, button rifled, good trigger and the bolt is very smooth. The stock is sketchy but I think that of all the tupperware stocks. I think the Marlin and the Vanguard are the best of the entry-level guns.

The Marlins I've handled and/or shot are good value. They appear well built and they shoot quite well. For what you pay, I believe you are getting a good deal.

My little sister has a XS7Y(youth) 7mm-08. Only thing youth about it is that the LOP is a little shorter. Hers is insane accurate with factory and handloaded ammo. Dad and I hate bringing it to the range because it consistently outshoots our Remington 700s and Ruger 77s

I first spotted the Marlin's last winter while in Kittery Trading Post. I am not a huge fan of the plastic stocks, but they are pillared and they come with a nice scope mounting base. The actions seem to be very smooth and I have no doubts about their accuracy. I have thought of putting together one of them in a 25-06 or something similar as another truck rifle. I think Boyds makes some nice laminates for them as well, so they can be dressed up for another 100 bucks. For the money, I am not sure there is alot better out there, thats for sure. Scotty

DeerTracker,

You're stating the obvious! The Marlins can shoot very well indeed.

I have had one in 308 for a couple of years. Shoots well, functions well, has killed one deer and is light and handy to carry. Couldn't ask for much more.

I bought a used one in 25-06. I threw together a test load using Varget and 100 Matchkings. No load tweaking, just something to zero the rifle with and a known safe load.

My first 3 shot group at 100 yds, after zeroing, went .212 c-c.

I've thought a lot about a youth rifle in 7mm-08 as a loaner to friends who don't have one for their kids. I think this with some 120 BT's would be tremendous whitetail medicine without undue recoil for smaller folks.

Everything Ive heard tells me they are one heck of a value. I would predict they will be the next "788" or "savage" or Browning ABolt slug gun. A darned accurate value. CL
