Can a Mauser 98 action be barreled for either 300 or 338 RUM?

The answer is no! 300 Winchester Mag, 338 Win Mag you can

I think you could do this if you started with a Magnum Mauser action. Think Interarms MK 10 or Charles Daly. The Brevex would be awesome as well, provided you could find (and afford) one.

ON THE PAST I HAD A 30-375 BUILT BY RAY ROMAIN IN PA.- IT HAS THE SAME COL AS THE 300RUM- IT WAS BUILT ON A MARK X ACTION AND WORKED PERFECTLY.

You can get Commercial Mauser action (ie Santa Barbara action) in 375 H&H length. That will work. But as far as rebarreling an 8mm Mauser or other military gun...nope
I have a gunsmith here in town who had a bunch of them sitting around forever in all lengths for a long time---cheap prices. I do not know what the status is now.

There are three listed, 1 standard 30-06 length and 2 magnum with either a 416 rigby or 375 H&H bolt face. Prices range from 548-662 USD. Need to have an FFL yada yada yada...
