I am looking at maybe getting one of these in 300 WSM and was just wanting to know if they are as good as the wood stock Mdl 70's, or should i just go with an EW if i want a synthetic stock. Thanks

I have one in 25-06.
As far as build quality, it's a fairly inexspensive stock but they guarantee 1" at 100 Yards with factory ammo it likes. My Gunsmith seems to like them and says that everything fits together the way it should. What I don't care for is the tapered barrel. It heats up too fast.
It seems to have, my opinion, a better stock than the Remington equivilent. For the money I don't think it's a bad buy given that you get a controlled round action and three position safety with a claw extractor.

This is purely my opinion...I have the blued version in 30-06...the stock is horrible, the rest of the rifle is GREAT!

I haven't had any troubles with barrel heating...mine shoots, as promised, 1 moa with good ammo (has done .5 moa with handloads)...I've never put more than 5 rounds through it without letting it cool though. As a hunting rifle, thats more rounds than it will ever need to fire in quick succession anyway.

I have a McMillan stock ordered for mine...should arrive next month.

In my opinion they are NOT as good as the real thing.

I have also noticed that the nickel lined barrels (or chrome??) do not shoot nearly as well.

I say wait for the real thing.

Th real thing being the model 70 CRF.

I do not like the stock nor the action on these.
Reminds me of the no frills remingtons. Just a personal thing- definitely not for me.

As far as accuracy goes I have never worked with one or had friends work with one and not be frustrated with its finickiness.
Now a regular 70 winnie? Difference between day and night.

Ahhh...OK, I think I get it now.

Its the "controlled round push feed" or whatever they call it on the WSM actions....right?

My buddy has a FWT in 270 WSM...his shoots pretty good...that was the rifle that inspired me to get a M70, but yes, I prefer good ole CRF too.

I was a hardcore Remington guy...always read about "the riflemans rifle" (even owned one that I never shot much....458 Win Mag)...but with all the uncertainty that surrounded Winchester for all those years I never gave them a serious look until FN stepped up.

Now I'm a hardcore Winchester guy...

P.S. And for what those crappy stocks are worth...they'd be better off just selling barreled actions.

As of now, I will take Winchester over Remington any day of the week and twice on Sunday!

There's hope for you old Air Force guys yet.

That is impressive, Fotis. How tragic that it has come to this, however. Fortunately, we do have some excellent choices in the world today.

Nothing tragic whatsoever on taking FN model 70 over anything Remington.

And I had a ultimate shadow 243 wssm that shots lights out that I regret selling. I'm going to locate another one after hunting season and hunt predators this winter with it. Coyotes are getting thick around here.

It is tragic that a once great company (Remington) has come to the point of producing a less than sterling product. Winchester went through their dark days, and I remained loyal, though I was severely tried and tempted. Eventually, the name was again associated with a quality product. I think every shooter can hope that such will be the case with Remington. It doesn't mean that I'll be willing to opt for a Remington over a Winchester, but the entire fraternity of shooters will be well served by quality firearms.

If my only option for rifles was new Remingtons, I'd be strictly archery hunting...

Thankfully, there are some good older Remingtons around. And of course, my precious 'bees. Nothing like a good Weatherby, for me.
