Mercury recoil reducers

Never used one but I have read that they do dampen recoil a little bit. The thing to keep in mind is that you are going to affect the balance of your rifle.

Is this for your 300 RUM?

Possibly, JD, I'm pretty sure the brake will be all I need but my gun's at the gunsmith still and I'm just doing a little day dreaming.

Yote,

Think twice about the brake, they are very loud on the RUM case size.

Not sure what you have for a recoil pad but a good pad like a Pachmyer Decelerator or Limb saver will really tame the recoil on the big magnums.

If you need more than that, get a Past Magnum recoil shoulder pad that you wear on your shoulder. Although I have never used one, I have been told that the gel filling does a great job of dissipating the recoil. Using both of these should do the trick when shooting off the bench. When in the field, you will never notice the recoil.

Hope this helps.

I've used the Decelerator on some rifles but the RUMs come with the Limbsaver. They take the pain out of the rifle recoil real well.
I've put a KDF muzzlebrake on my 375 RUM and just put one on the 338 RUM and will on the 7MM RUM and the 300 WBY. I've shot all of them dozens if not hundreds of times and I'm not recoil sensative at all. I shoot the 458 Lott without a problem. I AM sensative to the shots taken uphill or in a hurry while hunting when the rifle isn't perfectly set in my shoulder that turns my scopes into projectile cookie cutters. The recoil of the rifle isn't noticed but the recoil of the scope is as the blood runs down my nose. The noise of the braked shot is never noticed. I wear ear protection all other times. It started with two Savage rifles that came braked in 270 and 338. What a joy to shoot. If it weren't for the scope issue I would never have put brakes on any of my rifles. If you look close at the articles by the gunwriters you will see a lot of muzzlebrakes discreetly out of focus or shaded. I've only been cut twice in 40+ years but I've had a lot of love taps that should have warned me. My opinion :)

My STW isn't the same rifle since I put the brake on it. I no longer need the addition 10 pounds of weight on my shooting rest. I will probably add a Mercury Recoil reducer to my rig at some point, for the reason JD mentioned. With that long barrel, I need to bring the point of balance back to the real.
