I went out late this afternoon to my bluff to see if I could call in a coyote. Last night I heard 3 singing so I knew they would be in the area. I set up my FoxPro about 50 feet off to the side and used the remote to turn in on once I got myself situated. I was playing the Groundhog distress sound at low volume. About 20 minutes later, a coyote showed up in front of me right at 100 yds.
I put the standard duplex reticle of the Vari-X II 3-9x40mm tight into the left shoulder and sent a 100 gr BT from the 257 Bob on its way. The coyote spun around and made it about 15 feet and dropped. The 100 gr BT exited right in the pocket leaving an exit about the size of a golf ball. Female about 25 lbs.

Here is the entrance wound.

I have an old box of 85 gr BT's so I am going to give them a try on the next song dog.
I am pretty lucky to have the 110 gr AB, 100 gr BT and 85 gr BT all hit to the same POI at 100 yds.

Mmmmmm... golf ball size exit wounds... my favorite!

Nice job... gotta love a dog down...

Very cool JD- That predator hunting sure gets your blood pumping when you connect. I'm planning to talk to some coyotes on Friday and see if they want to come out and play.

Good show, Jim. Fine looking coyote and great description of the call and shot.

Nice 257! I have it's twin in my safe. Pillar bedded and free floated the barrell last year. It's shoots 5 shot groups all touching at 200 yards. I use 48gr of H414 pushing an 85gr nosler ballistic tip and a CCI LRP.

Nice shooting buddy! Your on a roll with that thing! Sure puts the smack down on those dogs!

Thanks fellas.
The M700 Classic 257 Roberts is no stranger to coyotes. I have shot several in years past with the 115 gr PT.

The coyotes were singing again last night after I left the woods, sounded like 3-4. As the saying goes, "I'll be bock". Going to use the 85 gr BT this time.

On a quest for the perfect coyote bullet? Are you looking to knock the stuffing out of them?

The more coyote clockworks, the better!

Preach on brother man... preach on!

.25 cal 85 NBT at 3400-3600... ain't a better bullet on the market for getting a good look at what makes a coyote tick...

Jim -
Nice yote...hope to get out this next week myself. I plan on taking the AI Bob out the next hunt just to see if I can match your results . Think I will try the 85BT as well, since I have a nice load worked up. Bad thing is the 22-250 will be severely disappointed knowing it has competition and may end up staying in the safe all winter. BTW, I saw two yotes "hunting" along I-90 near Chicago as I was traveling back yesterday.

Nice job JD338! We don't get too much of a chance to call coyotes here in western New York, we usually end up running them with dogs.
