I went out to my favorite spot to call for coyotes. Got settled in and I spotted a coyote about 350 yds out. I called and he stopped and looked my way. After a short pause, he headed in for dinner. He disappeared from sight and I got ready for show time. After about a minute, he reappeared from the thicket about 140 yds in front of me. I settled the cross hairs of the Leupold Vari-X II 3x9 scope on my M700 Classic 257 Roberts on his chest and sent a 110 gr AB on its way.
He went down spinning. The bullet entered in front of the left shoulder breaking it and exiting through the last rib on the off side leaving a wound about the size of a nickel.

Its been a tough season, they have been very quite and not responding to my calls. I am glad my persistence paid off.

Congrats! Sure wish I had some time to get out after them myself...I'm jealous! Too cool with 257 Rob and Accubonds. Almost as good as being able to go deer hunting later in the year, but on a miniature level :)

Great shot! Congratulations. That stimulates me to want to get out with my own 'Bob' to pop a 'yote.

Thanks fellas. I left the 22-250 in the safe and took the 257 Roberts just for a change. I used a 110 gr AB but what is really interesting is that this load is zeroed 1.5" high at 100 yds, the 100 gr BT and 85 gr BT print about an inch lower so I could use any of those loads. This is the first AB kill for the 257 Bob.

Jim,

What is your load with the 110 AB? To date, I've only been working with IMR8208XBR.

DrMike,

My 257 Roberts load with the 110 gr AB is 48.0 grs RL 22, R-P case and Federal GM210M primers.
Avg MV is 2974 fps, ES 16 SD 8. Accuracy is .6-.7". I plan on tweaking this load this spring, I want be able to get sub .5".
This is the accuracy level I get with the 100 gr BT/PT using 45.0 grs IMR 4350.

I've just started working with the Bob this past fall. I note that I have one load with the 110 AB and RL19 that give me good performance, but I haven't really focused on the Alliant powders. I believe it is time to give them another look. Thanks for the data.

I forgot to mention that my M700 Classic 257 Roberts is on a long action so I can load them long. I can go 3.00" and still not hit the lands.

JD, by your actions you saved a number of fawns and other animals, domestic included by eliminating an eating machine. keep it up. We are starting to see a definite increase in coyotes in Florida.

Great shot and great pictures. Doesn't get any better except to be repeated over and over.

POP- I still cant believe you haven't shot a coyote. You know wyoming has some damn good yote hunting...You dont know what your missing lol.

Think your gonna have to wipe down that pretty .25 there friend! Nothin the old quarter bore wont do this side of an ELK. Pretty dog too! CL
