Model 70 7x57 (Nice Wood)

Yeah, I know that feeling, needing to defend Remingtons when DocMike, Scotty or Dale start in on them...

Maybe that's a little different.

Moi? You accuse moi? Of dissing Remingtons? Kurt! (In my best offended voice) How could you make such a statement? I've merely compared them to the Rifleman's rifle. If they fail to hold their own...

(Jump in here any time, Scotty.)

Kurt, I have two Remington's in the safe.. While not Model 70's, they said they hope to grow up into one someday!..

Heck, those BDL and Classic 8RM's have always been on my want list. Remington's of old are a different breed of rifle than the new ones, at least in my eyes. The whole PF vs CRF doesn't play very much into my thought process, other than I like the feel/look of them. I don't truly believe either one would save my life, good rifles with some time spent with the rifle is always better than any gizmo made. Marines have been getting by just fine with PF's out here in the dirtiest country this side of Hell for quite awhile without complaints..

All my rifles have synthetic stocks on them and they are just that, "synthetic stocks doing the job". Synthetic can look nice but never match the beauty of wood.

Then I look at Scotty's son's 70 7x57. What a beautiful all around fantastic looking rifle !!!!
Man, Scotty, you are one awesome Dad giving your son such a beautiful and perfect caliber rifle.

P.S. Would you like to adopt another Son (a real old one)? I need a 300 Win Mag in that beautiful model for my collection.

Be Safe Scotty!!
Steve

It is five o'clock somewhere and fortunately for me I am in one of those places

For those who I have heard from and deleted their pm s I want you to know that I have complete respect for Scotty, BK, and others. In fact I have known Scotty for awhile now and on three different forums

Scotty has every right not to care whether it is a push feed or crf as do I --there are several reason why I prefer the CRF, but that doesnt mean push feeds dont work--they do. But like Scotty, I am entitled to my opinion and preference. Believe me Scotty and I have no problem with each other.

As to my original post to Bk, he answered it above and I responded to his answer. I certainly did not detect that he had a problem with my post and I certainly did not have any problem with his.

As to the Deer/Antelope classification, no offense was intended, it was simply a clarification

As I said it is five o'clock somewhere and I am there----waiter, one more please

You are danged right A. I like most all of them for different reasons, but even that Old Doc Mike has a few push feedings Remingtons around.. He said it best the other day, the Push Feeders have to fight harder to stay in the safe, so maybe that explains there performance. One slip and a Model 70 will replace them!

Steve, thank you. It is a great rifle. That rifle is about as much a mountain rifle as anyone could ever ask for. It is sleek, light to carry and is chambered in a Classic cartridge. I can't wait to get it bedded up properly and really rung out with the 160 PT's. I think it may surprise some folks what the little guy has going.

A, I certainly enjoy your posts. We are just having a friendly conversation, nothing more. If someone wants to offend me, they are going to have to try a lot harder! I AM a land surveyor, after all. With that comes a drinking problem and having to work with a bunch of cranky, crusty old bast... uh, gentlemen.

Now, it's almost 10:00 AM. Where's my bourbon? (Just kidding. I haven't even started my second pot of coffee yet.)

You have very valid points, but I'm not going to Africa anytime soon (dangit!) so CRF, while nice, is not gonna make that big of difference. I've seen a grand total of two bears while elk hunting, and I'm pretty sure I coulda whacked them just fine with my (PF) Whelen or (CRF) .300 Winchester without incident.

If I were to go to Africa, I'd most likely take my (CRF) '06 Featherweight and my (CRF) CZ .416 Rigby.

That being said, a four rifle battery of CRF M70s in .275 Rigby, Holland's Super .30, .375 H&H and .416 Remington would be outstanding!

You are absolutely correct. We are not in Africa and a controlled round feed is not needed to hunt in the United States

Welcome to the forum mate. Glad to have you aboard. I would say CRF isn't needed anywhere to be honest, but just like extra magazines, they are nice to have when you are running low in a gunfight.

Tell that to the Grizzly bear that is charging you as you are laying on your back and you can't get the round to load :)

Or the rabid squirrel...

I find this an interesting thread, even though I only have one bolt gun and it's XP-100 pistol.
However, I don't see where geography comes into play for another preference's? That's personal choice, and that's cool by me whether I agree or not. Quite honestly I don't see where "need" comes into play period! I would venture a bet, the greater share of our family here, have more firearms than is "needed". So again, what does need have to do with anything?
There are times, I will argue my my thoughts on a subject, but don't go beyond to the point of disparaging other's preference's.

I'm not sure why, but it certainly seems you have bone to pick with someone here!!!!
If I may suggest,,,just remember one thing. The internet has made it an ever so small world, and reputations proceed someone most often!
