I shot the .308 today for the first time since December when I took a doe with it. I had a 2-7 Redfield Revolution on it but had removed it shortly after the season and just got around to mounting a scope on it again. It's now wearing a Redfield Widefield 3-9, which will probably stay on it until I get its original scope repaired, a Redfield 1.75-5.

Anyway, here's what it did today. It's a pretty consistent performer for me.

My only complaint about this rifle is getting it sighted in. It's so nice to be able to sight down the bore on a bolt gun. Oh, well it only used a couple extra shots.

The Model 88 was ahead of its time. Yours looks as if it is a shooter, for certain. Good looking group.

Nice shooting!
Ya just gotta love the M88 and the M100. Awesome rifles for sure.

I really like 88s. Love to pick up a .284, a .306 and a .358.

Sorry, spastic fingers. 7.62 NATO. That better? 7.62x51? That's what happens when you use a keyboard (well, laptop) that just has a row of numbers across the top, rather than a 10-key to the right side.

Did they even make them in .358? I thought so, but now the good Doctor has me doubting myself.

Don't doubt it, Kurt. They did make the .358, but those who have one aren't eager to let them go. I've seen quite a few chambered in .308, but the .284 and .358 are not often seen on the used market today.

owenv,

What sort of groups do you get with your Model 88? Do you have a favourite load?

They are great rifles. I've seen a number of .308's and .243's on used racks, but have never come across one in .284 or .358.

I agree as was the Finnwolf.

Nice rifle Trevor! Talk about one sweet woods rifle. It looks like it is an awesome shooter as well. Can't complain with accuracy like that, at all! Once you get switched over to Nosler's, you will be on the one way track to whitetail heaven!!! Scotty

You suck! That is awesome!

My oldest bro has an 88 in .284 Win and I tell him EVERY time I see him that if he ever decides he doesn't want it I NEED IT!!!

I had another friend sell a .308 out from under me... ARGH! Well, at least he WAS a friend  .

Seriously Rovert, that is a fantastic find. I really, really likey!

Here's what a Savage 99 in 308 can do...

And that was with Factory loads! Lever guns can shoot and that is for sure!
