I just got back a couple of days ago from my Montana trip. I was able to take a Pronghorn buck with my 7x57 Number 1. The buck isn't the biggest, but it was block management land several weeks after the opener and I was happy as he!!. I had to stalk the buck for about 500 yards down a ridge and was exposed to around 40 set of eyes at times. I was able to use some low spots in the ground, some round hay bales and some fence posts during the stalk. I would like to tell you that I killed it with one single clean shot, but that would not be true. I stuck to it and was able to finish the buck off within a couple of minutes after my first shot.
The absolute highlight of my trip was getting my 90 year old Grandpa to shoot a mule deer buck. Pretty amazing since Granmps is nearly blind now. I had him on around 40 differernt deer, including a whopper of a whitetail at 40 yards, but the lighting and the brush made it too tough for him. Eventually a single shot at around 40 to 45 yards from an old Siamese Mauser dropped the deer in it's tracks. Gramps is also fairly deaf anymore but I was yelling and screaming loud enough for him to hear me 10 miles away.
I have asked a forum member to post some pictures for me so all can enjoy.
