I have the chance to purchase one of these. Don't know a whole lot about them. I looked at their website today and they seem to be well built rifles. Anyone have any experience with them? I looked in my Blue book and can't find any values on them. What would a fair price be on one of these guns? I was trying to decide if this is a custom rifle built on the 1999 action or did they actually make rifles?

Sorry posted in wrong sub forum. I thought I was in the rifles. Someone can move this post if they want to the proper sub forum.

Montana Rifle Co has been making those rifles for some time now - maybe 15+ years?

Rol_P has one, and just wrote about using it on a western hunt:

I've handled them, but never shot one, nor hunted with one. In your shoes - I'd ask Rol what he has to say about them. From his posts, they work out real well...

My Montana rifle is now my elk and deer rifle.. And I am extremely pleased with it..
It is a clone of the Winchester model 70 which I could not find in a left hand 30-06.
There is an article somewhere I believe on the Internet when the CEO basically says they want to send a finished rifle out the door, not one that needs the action glass bedded, barrel free floated... etc.. It is heavier than my Rem 700CDL in the same caliber and barrel length but that was not a problem on this hunt in Southwest Montana. What caliber isre you looking at? Good luck

I have the 1999 X2 in 26 Nosler. They have production rifles and they have customs too. The 1999 is often used in custom builds as you can buy the action. It is a Model 70 clone that is cast not forged, same process as the Ruger 77. If it is a production gun like mine or Rol's the barrels are top notch, hand lapped, and the stocks are made in house and come bedded and free floated. Pricing is based on model, mine was just under $1300. What is it that you are looking at?

Its a 338 Federal. I got to say I am a sucker for odd ball calibers.

The 338 Federal is a fine cartridge. I've managed to take one moose so far with mine. I've shot quite a few Montana actions. I like them. I must believe you would be quite pleased with a Montana rifle. The only negative I ever heard was a slow response to orders.

I have never shot one but I've heard so many good things about them that I want one in 270 Win. The X2 model seems to be the one, although something in wood is always nice.

You can also buy the actions and put your own barrel and stock on it.

They are made here in Montana and are a quality rifle. They sell in the $1,300+ range and are worth it. I haven't seen any come back for repair and are reported to be very accurate. They are nicely stocked, well balanced and just feel good. As for the 338 fed. I just shot the mule deer of my lifetime with one. I was using the 160 gr. TTSX. at 3040 FPS. My Kimber has too short a magazine for Accubonds to be accurate in It and I wanted it specifically for deer on this hunt. I don't think you will be disappointed and probably will be thrilled.

Montana Rifle Company

I have 1999 XCR stainless in 300 Win

Very happy with this rifle
Shoots 3/4 " with my handload of IMR 4350 @ 75.0 and 180 Nosler Part.

The action is a combination of German Mauser and Pre 64 Winchester.........very good action.

They build the whole rifle barrel and action.......well worth a grand.
