Moos hunt has startet here in the north

Congrats on the moose. Your dog looks to be part Norwegian Elkhound. Am I correct? I have had a couple elkhounds and I love them. What a great dog and very smart!!

Congrats!!! Got to love the Accubonds. For me its 180 grains reloads in my 300WM. Four other guys in my moose camp shoot the factory Winchester Supreme AB's in there 300WM.

I leave to my moose camp in 11 days. Cant wait. Meet up with old friends...some we only see 1-2 times a year. This year my oldest boy (8) comes out in mid afternoon, stay the night and leave the next afternoon. Another buddy at camp has his boy coming out again as last year was his first time. Missing some school, but cant miss hockey practices the next day for both boys........lol.

Nothing beats a freezer full of moose meat. I'm interested in what you guys do with your venison.

Most of my moose this year went to burger (ground with 20% beef fat) and canned.

We saved the backsrtrsps and tenderloins and neck for a roast. I think that is pretty typical of how Alaskans process and use outer meat. What's standard in Norway?

This is a Swedish Jemtlands dog. IT is similar to the Norwegian grey Moos dog, but bigger.

I usually use a Remington AWR in 375H&H loaded with barns 270 grains for Moos hunt. The 3006 is a good round for moos, and a good shoice when hunting near houses. Light bullets with soft core tends not to go throu, a little bit safer.
This year I am trying my knew Blaser R8 in 9.3x62 loaded with norma 186 grains oryx.

All fine cartridges for moose. I do like the 9.3 calibres, and the Norma 186 grain Oryx is an excellent bullet. I use it in my 9.3X64 occasionally. They are somewhat more expensive here in Canada, so I don't use them extensively. Still, they are a fine bullet.

That looks like it will be fine table fare!

I had the pleasure of eating some goulash prepared by Norwegians once; it was quite good. And they served a delicious red wine with lunch, always a way to make me think highly of the food!

Congratulations on a nice moose, your pictures are getting me very excited to chase them in our 1 week rifle season coming up in about one month. There is nothing that quite compares to moose hunting :) Looks like the 150 gr AccuBond was up to the task and performed well.....

Very nice picture! Congrats on the moose!

Beautiful dog as well.

Hope the 9.3 is able to get out and hunt. Love heading about hunts with the Oryx. Always an impressive bullet. I'd love to try some 156's in my Swede someday.

Nice moose, congratulations.

The 9.3mm calibers are becoming more popular here. Several people on this forum one a 9.3mm for moose or elk hunting. I have a 9.3x74R, single shot. Your Blazer R8 should be a great moose load. I use the 250 Nosler Partitions in my 9.3x74R.

I'm a little late to the party but please let me extend my hearty congratulations.
I'll make my first moose foray to Newfoundland this time next year. Looking forward to a freezer full of moose.
Great looking dog too.

Joel,

My hunting buddy and I booked this hunt through Cabela's.
We went with Efford's as that's whom Cabela's was booking with at the time. If, or should I say when, I book another bucket list hunt like this again I'll likely use them, Cabela's, again. Their services are great. Doesn't cost more than the advertised price, and they even help with booking your airplane flight. They work great, so far, as a facilitator. As I delve more in to this hunting thing I'll likely do less with them but for the first big hunt I figured it was a good way to go and my hunting buddy voted for it. It took a lot of the leg work out of the equation.

I booked my elk hunt through Cabela's Outdoor Adventures also, with much the same experience as yours. I look forward to booking my next hunt through them.
