Muzzle Blast

Hello,

Has anyone installed a brake to reduce the noise / blast from a .204 Ruger?

A muzzle break will not reduce noice......just the opposite. It increases noise and redirects some of the blast to the side. A break will reduce recoil, which you probably don't need for a 204.

Blaine is spot on. I have never shot a 204 Ruger but I wouldn't think you would need a break to see red mist. Maybe a Mag-na-Port job would help.

You are correct. I dug a little deeper and have given up on the muzzle brake to reduse the noise.

A muzzle brake for a 204 Ruger...... why? My Savage 12FV in 204 has about as much recoil as my 10-22. My reloads are kicking out about 3988 fps here in CA (sea level).

My question is are you an experienced shooter with larger calibres? If not go and play with something bigger for a while and you'll soon come to appreciate how mild the little .204 is.

I can speak from experience on this, went from shooting 40+ rounds out of my 204 to testing some loads out of my 300RUM. Makes a person really enjoy the love tap the 204 gives you.

I agree, my 35 Whelen felt like a pop gun after a bench session with my 338 RUM the other day. :lol:
Actually I have been able to see a couple hits on woodchucks with my 700VLS 22-250. This is a heavy rifle (10.5 lbs) so there isn't much recoil.
