I just purchased a Nosler Model 21 in 28 Nosler caliber. I want to get a muzzle break to reduce recoil, but having a hard time figuring out which ones will fit. I believe the muzzle threads are 5/8-24. Most places I've looked they don't have one specifically for this caliber. What caliber range will work? 338 and lower? 30 and lower? Just need some guidance before purchase

My hunting rifle has a Salmon River 2 port Titanium. Crazy light and does a great job on my Seekins 6.5 PRC. I wanted an ultralight 2 port brake to keep overall length down and I didn't really need a ton of recoil reduction. The 2 port is also a little easier on the ears as the shooter compared to a 3 or 4 port brake. But, shooting a rifle with a brake without hearing protection is not something you'd want to do a lot. I've done it a couple times in the when I forgot to put my axil earbuds in and it'll definitely ring your bell pretty good.

The other brake I really like is Area 419 Hellfire. Its a 3 port steel brake and does a really good job as well. My buddy has one on his Seekins 6.5 PRC and it does take a little more recoil out than the Salmon River 2 port, but that is expected with the extra port. He also has the Hellfire Match on his Seekins 6GT. Its already a very low recoil round but it makes it kick like a 223 benchrest gun so its gun to shoot long range with it and really watch bullet impact.

You can buy a brake that is diameter specific. For 28 Nosler you'll need a 7mm or 284 opening. But, if you get a 30 cal you can run anything up to 30 cal so it can change guns down the line and you wont have to buy a new brake. That is one advantage to the Area 419 system. They all run off an adapter. You can buy 1 brake and multiple adapters and move the 1 brake from different rifles and/or attach a suppressor to it.
