...and it grew up!

I have some bedding work to do yet, but hopefully by the weekend, my M70 Classic 35 Whelen will be ready for it's first range session!

Ah... Now that looks like a largish hole in the end of the barrel... Cool!

Sure is....figured I'd resort to an "aggressive copper fouling removal method." Ha!

I have to finish getting the rifle into the McMillan stock I bought for it, then it'll be time to put the 3-10x42 Swaro Z3 on it and see what she can do!

Very nice, Tom. Very nice, indeed. This should serve you well.

Tom,

There is no replacement for displacement!
The 35 Whelen is a hammer, congratulations.

Yeah, your going to be all up in the reloading cave here pretty quick.

It does look like very nice work was done though.

Very nice Tom.

Should be a thumper for sure. It's too bad no one on here shoots a 35 whelen :)

Can't wait to see it shoot.

So... A guy could shoot the heck out of a .30-06, and at the end of the useful barrel life...

Have it re-bored as a .338-06, then shoot the heck out of it and at the end of the useful barrel life...

Have it re-bored to a .35 Whelen, and shoot the heck out of it...

I could see a barrel lasting a long time and filling many freezers that way!

Thanks, guys. Between this and the 264, I'm gonna have my hands full.

Tom,

Between the 35 Whelen and the 264 Win Mag, a fella doesn't really need much more!

Well, it'll be a good long while till I find out if it is or isn't. Long story, but I'm kinda painted into a corner here with the stock, so I think it's gonna wind up sitting unused for a while. Nothing to do with the rebore, I just got ahead of myself on it all. Now I can't get the dang thing into any stock to shoot it.

There's a solution somewhere, but I'm so frustrated with it right now, I'm not even gonna look at it for a while.

Tom you can't leave us hanging like that. We need to know what the hang up is. Maybe we can help.

I tried to post it and the forum errored out on me.

It seems like the McMillan is inlet incorrectly. The front action screw won't come past flush with the flat behind the recoil lug recess. Additionally, the trigger does not come through the stock far enough, yet the mag box is pushed tight to the bottom metal. Since it has factory-installed pillars, there's not much shaping I can do internally for it, at least not easily.

I emailed McMillan. Since I'm a 2nd-hand owner, I'm not sure what they'll do or not do.

I'm hoping they'll correct it, but they could easily say no.

Tom you have great taste in calibres, welcome to the club :). I sure hope that McMillan comes through for you and that 35 performs like I know it will.

Blessings,
Dan

I hope so, too. Otherwise, I guess I'll flea-bay the thing (the stock) for whatever I can get for it and start over on stocks.

My dog hurt himself badly tonight....the vet called and he's fine, but staying with them overnight. Very relieved he's ok, but bracing for the vet bill. If it's as steep as I fear, I may need to just get a wood stock for the Whelen for now, as a good synthetic may be out of the question for right now.

If necessary, Boyds has some rather attractive wood laminate stocks at very good prices.

Guy

True. I'm not usually much of a laminate fan, but maybe....

We'll see. Maybe McM will hook me up, who knows. I'm not holding my breath, but one never knows.

Hey Tom what happened to your pup. Pets are just like family and I know at my house where we have to female Labs it can get tense.
Hope that your pup makes a full recovery and the Vet bill is gentle!!

Blessings,
Dan
