My 35 Whelen

The thing that throws me is the 35 Whelen (with the 30-06 parent case) and the 358 Norma (338 win mag case necked up), almost push the same max velocity. 2800 fps, compared to like 2870 or so for the Norma.

Both just seem like just power houses! But I'd think the 35 Whelen is a bit more efficient.

The Whelen is capable of 2750 or a bit more fps with 225's, the 358 Norma when properly loaded should be around 2900 or even more. I would say it is about 150-200 fps faster but in the field you probably wouldn't know the difference at normal ranges. Both are great rounds but the Whelen is no slouch when it comes to performance.

Gerry is correct, either round will bring home the elk (or the moose or the bear or the deer, as far as that goes). That heavy mass thumping at the velocities generated will almost always mean dead game.

Great looking rifle.
Yup, fellas, and ladies, here are top notch. They'll do to ride the river with.

The Whelen is a versatile round. 130-310grain bullets. It doesn´t become much better as an allround caliber.

Go shot that darn thing...:)

My plans got interrupted again. My wife has been on me to do something besides hang around the house and play all day.So a friend who owns the property where I parked my runs a construction business. He stops by my wife's job and mentions he is looking for a driver so I had to go and inquire what he was looking to do. 7:30am I get a call that he needs help.
Guess who is back to work driving a Truck. Yeah that's right me. :x :(

Oh my that is terrible but it's nice that he can count on you ! The word just scares me to death almost "work"

Don't know if I should offer congratulations or not, Rodger! :? Mind you, the money can be nice to pay for play.

Rodger I believe truck driving is second nature too you. Just do it at your own pace .
Maybe you could pick up a 280AI. Just think how cool the 35 Whelen & a 280 AI you will be set for life . Lol

Blessings,
Dan

I have to agree, I have both. Just add a quarter bore, fast 33 and a 45-70 lever and you are set up for almost anything.

Well fellows I have to tell you it has been an experience since I haven't driven a Commercial vehicle in over a year and the Doctor originally told me it would be a year and a Half before the ankle could take the beating. I just wish the rest of my body was doing as well as my ankle. I'm so arm weary that I don't think I could hold my Whelen up to shoot it off hand. The first day (Tue ) I put in 7hr, Wednesday I put in 11hr today I put in 12 1/2 hr. Not all of this was driving but still in the truck. And the truck broke down so I won't have to drive tomorrow  Blew a air bag on the lift axle. I needed a brake anyway.

Take it cool Rodger there is no need to completely wear yourself out over a job!!! There comes a point it life that it is just not worth it !

Blessings,
Dan

Yup, I know what your saying. Problem is I have done this all my life. When there is a job to be done I don't quit till it's finished. Once the body gets back in shape from a year and a half of physical inactivity do to the ankle I'll be alright but if the owners truck can't take what I'm doing now I won't be working long because I won't drive it.
