Well I just bought a 629 no dash recessed and pinned. I have been told with sane loads it will last a lifetime. This has been a dream of mine! Hopefully my gunsmith will rate it in fine health. Looks great and from what I heard there is no smoother smith out there! I can not even see a cylinder ring or scrape. Hope I am right

Congrats! I bet it is a real shooter, I have had 3 different 6" - 6.5" 29/629's and they have all been really accurate. My 29-2 pinned and recessed is by far the smoothest S&W I have owned.

My last 2 have really liked www.bayoubullets.net with Unique and Bullseye for plinking loads with no leading.

POP,

That is quite a handsome wheelgun. Great find. Congratulations.

about 20 years of reloading for it.

Awesome 6 gun Pop. Hope it is a shooter for you. Never heard of too many S&W's that didn't shoot really well though. Scotty

The thing that worries me is the strength issue.

Pop, what loads are you planning on running? I would think a box or so of the heavies a couple times a year would not hurt the gun at all. Both the S&W 44's I loaded for shot 240's over 5grs of Bullseye very accurate and it is a heck of a plinker.

My standby load (well withing SAAMI) is 20 gr H110 with 300 grain XTP or Nosler. I get about 1200 fps

That doesn't seem like a really heavy load that is really going to beat the gun up. I am not sure what version my old man 629 was, but I used 19.5 with Sierras in his growing up. I shot alot of those down the tube and the gun is still pretty tight. He shoots a ton of factory stuff through it also. I imagine it is stronger than we all think they are. Scotty

Pop you know the rules. Please ship it to me at once for long term evaluation. reflex264

It is a load straight out of the manual. Not an over the top load. It is just that I am used to Rugers which are indestructible.

Here is a picture of my work horse hunting hand gun, a S&W 629 Classic 44 Rem Mag with a Leupold 2X hand gun scope.

My hunting load is a 250 gr PT with 21.0 grs H110, W-W case and CCI 350 primers.
