I have a friend who has a Ruger Hawkeye in 358Win and he is using a 250gr Partition and it is crossing the Chrony at 2394-2408fps with out any signs of being over pressure on the brass, primers or ejection. Were talking a load that still has over 2100ft pounds of energy at 250yds. We are talking serious thumper for a cartridge that has a short action. I he is using IMR4895 and Varget, and I am going to try it in my 358Win by backing off and working up. Man that would be one fine thumper with a zero of 200yds for big game and even dangerous game. YEP!!! I got to go that that place with the 250gr Partition. I will let folks know if I even get close to what he is doing.

Do you mean 2394 - 2408fps? 2800fps is a bit much for the .358. :)

PLEASE let us know how this turns out, I have a .358 Win Hawkeye, that sounds like a great load.

Mike, I tried the 250gr Speer in my 358 Win BLR and was able to get into the 2350 range pretty easily using Varget and AA2520. Accuracy wasn't great in mine, so I kinda decided to back off to the 225's. Just so you know, Noslers Shooters Pro Shop has the 250gr PT's on sale right now, so you might wanna grab some if you are going to shoot em. You can buy about a 150 of the 2nds for the same price as a box of 250gr 1st's in most places. Good luck, hope you find something, that would be a heckuva load. Scotty

Mike,

In my Hawkeye, as velocity increased with the 250 grain Speer and Hornady, accuracy dropped off. Therefore, I focused on 200 grain and 225 grain.

I inverted the numbers and have corrected it.

I sure am hoping that I will get the accuracy and I believe I will with a little work. Sure going to try, because if I do that will be what I use busting stuff in thickets and up close big stuff while knocking a deer down out to 250yds. Ought to be hoot. I already like my 358win a whole lot!!! It seems to shoot every bullet I have tried so far really great. In fact if I don't have over a 200yd shot when I go to a certain area to hunt I will grab my 358Win knowing that I can hit with it out to 300yds where I have practiced with it. So far coyote, bobcat and deer have hit the ground when using it and I mean right where I shoot them. Thanks for the heads up on the Partitions. :)

Well, the 250gr Partitions 2nd's are on the way. :) :) Why do I feel so positive about these, don't really know accept I do and maybe because my 358Win shoots so good.

Pretty good savings over buying 1st's and you will have plenty for load work. Looking forward to hearing how they shoot Mike. Scotty

Thanks for the heads up Scotty, I will let you know what happens and how it turns out. One thing for sure, if I can get close to the velocities and have good hunting accuracy, this load should really be the deal with it being a Partition.

Man, that is my moose dream. Either the 35 Whelen with the 250gr PT or the 358 Win with the 225gr PT. I can't imagine either not getting me into meat! Scotty

I have done a lot of calculating, and I figure I will only get close to 2325-2350fps from my past experiences with IMR4895 and AA2495BR. But if this is the case I still will be happy with this load if it is accurate. Will see just how close my calculations are in predicting the velocities. I think that I might not be able to reach my friends velocities in my gun. Well, we will see. :)

Good luck Mike! Hope you do it! Scotty

I will be trying H4895, IMR4895, and AA2495BR - these will give me at least a chance

What about W748? Just had some decent luck with it and 225's. Seems like it might do decent in the 250 range also. Scotty

I was cruising around the 24hrcampfire and saw a chart that showed 48.0grs of TAC + 250gr Hornady RN = 2404fps groups = .95" and 48.0grs TAC + 250gr Nosler PT = 2423fps group = 1.44"

52grs Norma 201 + 200gr Hornady = 2753fps group = .78"

Fed215 primers for all loads.

Wow, I might have to give TAC a try. Those look like pretty good loads! Scotty

There is an article in Handloader by John Barsness about the .358 Win, but I don't know the issue???

I attached the chart for your right click and save pleasure. :)

Heath, thanks for that data. I just passed up some cheap TAC at a gun show! Now, I wished I would have grabbed it! Scotty
