My new .358 Hawkeye

In fact, I was using 250 grain Hornady SPs when I dropped a bison a couple of years ago. The animal was spined and went down immediately. I will use a 225 Partition for hunting bison in the future. The extra velocity will be more comforting for me, if I should use this cartridge. Actually, for those animals, I would rather use my 325 WSM or the 35 Whelan or 350 RM. However, I don't believe I am undergunned with the 358.

.405, Ruger sent me the front extension ring, you were correct it backed it up 1/2" and made the eye relief much better. On 6x in a shirt it fit perfect, I put on my heavy hunting clothes and it was tough to muster enough eye relief. With the front extension it made things much much easier.

DrMike, I polished the feed ramp on my .358 and polished the rails as they were really scratching the brass. The ramp made feeding smoother but it still would not chamber the 200gr RN. I seated one way out and it chambered flawlessly, so it was a factor of OAL with the RN bullets. It still aggravates me that it won't chamber the 200gr RN bullets at the correct OAL, but I just picked up 300 PSP 200gr Hornadys so I should be set for awhile.

Well, if Nosler makes 200 grain ABs in .358, it will solve the problem nicely.

Heath,

As pictured, is that Leup using the factory supplied med rings?

I've got the same rifle, but I've not gotten around to firing it. My plan was/is to have Ruger swap out the med rings for lows which will fit my application just fine. I'm planning on a 4x Leup, or a 2-7x33.

biglmbass, yes that is with the supplied rings, lows should fit well. The only problem I have read about with low rings is the bolt handlehitting the rear objective on the scope, some people have reported not having enough clearance so I just stayed with the supplied ones.

I polished with 400grit sandpaper, be sure to clean the breech good after polishing because it will be full of stuff.
