Not exactly new but finally finished after several changes. .416 Taylor. It will shoot under an inch with 400gr partitions or 300gr TSX bullet. Shoots flatter than a .375 H&H with the 300grs launched 2800fps. reflex264

I always liked the 416 Taylor. Congrats on the rifle.

You got a 416 Rigby in a #1 don't you?

Man! 400 grain bullet without a brake!!! You guys are tough. I'm still looking for courage to shoot my 338 Lapua Ackley without the brake, and so far I can't muster any, even though the rifle weigh 15 lbs.

DF,

With that much weight, the Lapua will be a pussycat.

reflex264,

That is a handsome rifle. The 416 Taylor is a great cartridge. My hunting partner is building one right now. A 300 grain TSX at 2800 fps is a hammer, for certain.

Beautiful rifle, congratulations. Let us know how she shoots.

A 15 lb 338 Lapua AI shouldn't be too bad recoil wise w/o the brake.
You can do it!

Pop- yes I have a #1 .416 Rigby that is a hoot to shoot. Very accurate rifle. I usually launch 400 partitions 2500fps from it.

JD338- this thing is verry accurate. Typical Charles Gatlin rifle. No problem shooting 3/4" groups but I feel like it will better that with some load developement. I really wish there was a 350gr AccuBond for it. Probably launch it around 2450-2500 for a great elk/bear long range load.

I forgot to mention the scope is a VariX-III 1.75x6 with the heavy cross hairs. reflex264

I thought so. It is a twin to my 1H in 458 Lott.

Very nice looking rifle. What's the 416 Taylor based on? I've heard of it before, but I have no idea what it started as!

It is a .458 necked down to .416. Pretty much duplicates the original Rigby ballistics in a much cheaper to shoot rifle. It was Bill Ruger's favorite dangerous game cartridge. John Wooters used it on all the big bad boys in Africa as did Maj John Kingsley-Heath and the father of the cartridge Chatfield Taylor. reflex264
