My new Winchester M70 in 375 RUM... with pictures

Man, I should hope so. That is going to be something akin to a moose getting hit by a truck! Can't wait to see your Fall pictures of that M70 laying over the moose! Scotty

Scotty -
have you ever seen a vehicle that has hit a moose? I swear the moose wins every time...

Now, Joel, I'd argue it is about a draw when a moose and a car tangle. I can't always say the same for the occupants of the car. Tragically, I've seen a few deaths from such collisions.

For once and for all, lets settle this moose against car debate...

Good picture, Maurice, showing just how devastating such collisions can be. While living in Jasper/Valemount, there was on average one collision between moose and cars each week.

I still say pick up trucks work better for hauling!

That will make for an interesting gut job!

The moose or the Chevy?

It may have already been gutted, with all of it inside the car. I saw some pics of a mini-van that had hit a deer and the deer went through the windshield, the whole interior of the van was sprayed blood red.

Coming in late on this one, but that is a great looking Model 70 custom! It should be a very effective moose killer up there in Ontario as well. Nice workmanship job by the Smith and great looking big game rifle. Let us know how it shoots? A 270 gr bullet at 2900 should DRT any moose that wanders into its path.

Thanks to everyone who posted and gave feedback to this thread. I have just started load development for this cartridge so it is still very premature to say which load will shoot the best out of that barrel. I'm guessing H4831sc will be the most accurate powder using 260gr accubonds... When shooting the TSX I'm using H4350. So far I got groups down to 1 inch five shot groups at a 100 meters. Nothing to brag about but its getting there. I chronographed the velocity of these 270gr TSX at 100 meters and average was 2500 fps +/- 15 fps.

More to follow,

Maurice

Maurice, I am thinking you are really going to be able to pour on the coal in your load work. Even though, 2500 with a 270gr bullet is still very strong medicine! Scotty

Stock is an Accurate Innovations laminate.
Barrel is a 24 inch PacNor 1/10 twist 6 grooves
Winchester ULTRA mag box and follower
NECG sights
NECG action screws
Williams extractor
Leupold QRW bases and rings

Action was trued. Receiver face, bold face, lugs etc
All metal surface were Cerakoted in a graphite black

Quality stuff there Maurice! Good looking rifle, and I particularly like the photo of it resting on the Nosler reloading manual. Am thinking that this is enough rifle to handle any big game, anywhere in the world, for a lifetime of hunting.

Regards, Guy

Scotty, when I said I was getting 2500 fps, that is chronographed velocity at 100 meters and not at the muzzle lol. At the muzzle I'm getting 2850fps avg. But yes, you are right, I can still add a few more fps if I wish to do so

Scotty, when I said I was getting 2500 fps, that is chronographed velocity at 100 meters and not at the muzzle lol.

Now, that is really funny! Scotty, still think he can pour on some more coal?

I stand corrected! Jesus, what a hammer! Wow. That makes it seem even more unreal! Man, I need to really read everything posted.... Great shooting. Scotty

Here is the best part, the 375 RUM can push the 260 gr AB to 3000 fps MV which will be 2600 fps at 200 yds.
That is some serious horse power!
