Ruger Hawkeye 375 Ruger, 3-9X36 Z3 scope
Custom Weatherby Vanguard .270 Winchester, Burris Fullfield 3-9X40
Ruger SBH 7.5" 44 mag

Right now these cover all my hunting that can't be done with a .22 (squirrels, varmits, ect) I call these my "hunters"....The .270 has 7 deer and 5 elk to it's credit.

You're well covered for almost anything you may encounter with that arsenal.

Have you killed anything with the Ruger Hawkeye 375 Ruger?

I shot 2 mule deer with the 375 last year, both smaller 3 points. One at bout 60 yards the other at about 100 yards. Both died before they hit the ground. Quarter size exit hole out both animals.

Good thing you're in Idaho; It requires a MUCH BIGGER calibre to drop antelope and mule deer in Wyoming.

Dr Mike - I understand some Wyoming residents have turned to African charge-stopping rifles for pronghorn hunting. Apparently those antelope get downright vicious at times! Sort of figured the .375 would be enough, but apparently people are turning to even bigger cartridges...

I've got to admit that almost all of my hunting for the past eight years or so has been with my .25-06 700 CDL. Apparently that rifle and I just flat get along. I think it's up to eight mule deer now, along with the pronghorn from last fall, and a few unlucky coyotes as well. Now and again I carry something different, but not often. Kind of nice to have one rifle that I consistently grab when heading afield.

I'm not naming names, but if the word "Fotis" means anything, there is some indication that the bigger the calibre the more effective the shot on those vicious antelope.
